Our Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Saqib Siddiqui, joined a thought-provoking panel discussion titled “Mission Drift in Microfinance?” chaired by CEO Tabadlab, alongside distinguished leaders from across Pakistan’s financial inclusion ecosystem.

The debate explored a vital question: Has microfinance in Pakistan genuinely enabled the marginalized to graduate out of poverty, or has it become a tool that sustains rather than transforms?

Mr. Siddiqui emphasized that while the sector has evolved, its core mission remains unchanged, anchored in financial inclusion, institutional sustainability, and lasting social impact. He noted that today, microfinance extends far beyond lending; it is about empowerment through innovation and collaboration. According to him, the ecosystem has grown more robust and inclusive, reflecting not a mission drift but rather the natural evolution of the mission itself to meet the changing needs of communities.

At PMIC, we believe the mission has not drifted, it has expanded. The new frontier of microfinance lies in connecting finance with opportunity, inclusion, and resilience.

PMIC CEO Mr. Yasir Ashfaq chaired an interesting high-level policy dialogue on the macroeconomic impact of microfinance in Pakistan, examining how the sector drives income generation, employment, savings, and resilience while drawing lessons from global best practices. The discussion focused on the need to move beyond traditional RCTs toward human-centered impact assessment tools, such as financial diaries and longitudinal studies, that capture real household dynamics. The dialogue explored micro–macro linkages, context-specific policy approaches, and the role of digitalization in advancing financial inclusion with client protection. Featuring experts from the World Bank, NRSP, Kashf Foundation, and ASA Microfinance Bank, the discussion underscored that a robust and adaptive microfinance ecosystem is essential for inclusive and resilient economic growth in Pakistan.
