Every citizen of Pakistan, 18 years and above, is eligible for a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) upon reaching the age of 18. It serves as an identification document to authenticate an individual's identity as a citizen of Pakistan.

It is the first requirement of individuals as it is mandatory for voting and to obtain documents like license, NTN, bank account, passport, cellular connection etc. Thus CNIC is a necessity for meaningful civic life in Pakistan.
