My first death benefit claim. After 8+ years as a Sun Life Advisor.
I never thought I’d say this.
After more than eight years in this profession, I just processed my first death benefit claim.
And it hit differently.
Maraming policy reviews, questions, reminders, at follow-ups.
Marami na ring fund withdrawals, hospital income benefit claims, at critical illness benefit claims na naprocess.
Pero recently, I experienced something for the first time.
I processed my first death benefit claim.
And this one was different.
Because behind the claim was a person who was once sitting with his family, making plans, dreaming about the future, and probably thinking that there was still so much time.
He was still young.
Pero minsan, life reminds us of something we don’t want to think about:
Being called home can happen suddenly.
Bakit ngayon?
Bakit siya?
Bakit ang aga?
Some questions will simply remain unanswered.
And no amount of money can ever replace the presence of someone we love.
But it can help the family continue.
The death benefit can help provide for the children’s needs.
It can help keep them in school.
It can help protect the dreams their parents had for them.
It can help give the family some financial breathing room while they grieve and slowly learn how to live with the loss.
And as I processed this claim, I realized something deeply personal.
As an advisor, we don’t know when our clients will actually need the protection we helped them put in place.
In fact, we hope they never have to use it.
But when that unexpected day comes, and we are able to tell a family,
“Approved na po ang claim ninyo.”
—that moment makes everything real.
We are holding a promise.
A promise that says:
And that is why this first death benefit claim is something I will never forget.
Hindi dahil may claim akong na-process.
But because I witnessed how financial protection can become part of a family’s strength during one of the weakest moments of their lives.
Today, I am grateful.
Grateful that this family had protection.
Grateful that their loved one’s decision to prepare just two years ago is now helping them.
And grateful that, as a Sun Life Advisor, I was given the privilege to help deliver that promise.
We don’t know when our time will come.
But while we are still here, while we still have dreams, while our children are still young, we have the opportunity to prepare.
Because loving our family isn’t only about being there for them today.
Sometimes, love is also making sure they will still be okay—even when one day, we can no longer be there.
And perhaps that is one of the greatest gifts we can leave behind. ❤️
Protect the people you love. While you still can.
