The Seasonal Reality of Fishing 🌦️

Suggested Timing: Flexible (Best during the transition between Amihan and Habagat)

For Filipino fishermen, the weather isn't just small talk—it dictates whether a family eats. 🌊⛈️

Depending on the season, the Amihan (Northeast Monsoon) or Habagat (Southwest Monsoon) can make the seas too dangerous to navigate. In Bicol, facing the Pacific, the Amihan can bring rough, unfishable waters, while over in Palawan, the Habagat season brings the harshest storms. Add to that the necessary "closed fishing seasons" to protect marine life, and a fisherman's income can drop to zero for months at a time.

That’s why the Anchor of Hope program isn't just about boat ownership—it's about survival and resilience. ⚓

The True Anchors of the Household 👩‍👧

Behind every successful fisherman is the true anchor of the household. 💙
While the men harvest the sea, the women in our coastal communities are the ones managing the budget, processing the catch, and securing the family's future.
But poverty and exploitative rental systems take a heavy toll. Often, daughters are pulled out of school to help manually mend fishing nets just to save on material costs.

Through the Anchor of Hope program, we are empowering these incredible women:

Financial Visibility: Fixed weekly payments mean mothers can finally budget accurately for their household.
Securing Education: With the massive increase in income from owning their boat, families can afford ready-made nets, allowing daughters to drop the mending tools and return to school!
Financial Literacy: With our partner, we provide women with direct training in household budgeting and savings.

What a difference a year makes! Back in March 2025, we launched the Anchor of Hope program with a pioneering group of 5 determined fisherfolks in Manguisoc, Mercedes, Camarines Norte. Yesterday, during an amazing "All Together" gathering at the beautiful Apuao Island, we proudly honored 3 of those original members who successfully completed their 1-year contracts right on time! 🚤💪

After 12 months of perseverance, they are now the official, proud owners of their own Bangkas. And to the 2 members who are malapit na sa success—keep pushing forward! We believe in you, and we know you will reach your finish line very soon. 🌊

Watching our members transition to full ownership and secure a sustainable livelihood for their families is exactly why we started this journey. We invite you to listen to Miss Data video as she beautifully captures what this milestone means for her family's future.

⚓ Anchor of Hope: Tuloy ang Pag-asa sa San Isidro, Marinduque! 🌅

Isang taos-pusong pasasalamat sa napakagandang komunidad at sa mga dedikadong Cluster Leaders ng San Isidro, Marinduque para sa isang napakaproduktibo at makabuluhang pagpupulong ngayong araw! 🌊🤝 Nakakataba ng puso ang inyong mainit na pagtanggap at pakikiisa sa ating layunin. ❤️

Bilang pinakamalaking munisipalidad sa Marinduque na may 55 barangays, napakalaki ng potensyal ng San Isidro. Ngayong araw, sa ilalim ng Anchor of Hope program, sama-sama tayong humakbang pasulong upang mas palakasin at tulungan ang ating mga minamahal na mangingisda. 🛥️💪

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Miss Emily and Sir Kim from the SIFFAC cooperative. Maraming salamat po sa inyong walang-sawang suporta at paggabay sa ating livelihood framework! 🙏✨ By working together in clusters, our fishermen will now have a direct avenue to sell their catch to the cooperative. 🐟📈

After a long journey of preparation, we are incredibly proud to officially launch the Anchor of Hope program in Sitio Bayang, Brgy. Turda, Coron, Palawan! ⚓️✨

We are honored to start this voyage with our first 5 beneficiary families. This program is more than just a lending service; it is a groundbreaking rent-to-own initiative designed to empower our local fisherfolk to become independent boat owners. 🚣‍♂️
