August 28, 2026

PSEi closed at a 2-month low of 5,956, its first close below 6,000 since June 24. BPI was the main drag throughout the session. The index briefly recovered toward flat before an MOC selldown in BPI (-2% gap down), BDO (-1%) and ICT (-1.5%) pushed it back down. Net foreign selling reached ₱3.5bn, or just half of the May MSCI rebal outflow despite the reduction of PH country weight.

ALI (+0.3%) bucked the selloff despite an estimated 280mn shares / ₱4.4bn of passive outflows (17x ADV) from its MSCI downgrade to Small Caps. AC bought 20mn shares at the MOC, but this was only 6% of MOC volume, suggesting the buying provided support but was nowhere near enough to offset MSCI flows. ALI’s own buyback still appears largely absent, with ~₱9.2bn remaining.

PSEi fell below 6,000 intraday and only recovered above it on the MOC gap-up. PH sharply underperformed ASEAN despite the region also facing MSCI weight cuts, pointing to PH-specific positioning ahead of tomorrow’s rebal. Timing may also play a role, as PH rebalances tomorrow vs. Aug. 31 for the rest. Foreigners posted their largest net outflow since the SMPH placement last Aug 13.

ICT (-4%) posted >₱1bn net foreign selling, its largest outflow since the May rebal. ICT also bought back 400k shares (~14% of volume), its first buyback since June 1.

August 26, 2026
PSEi underperformed the region, with 6,100 now the key support. Investors remained cautious ahead of tom’s BSP decision and Friday’s MSCI rebalancing.

ICT (-3%) hit a new month low and drove 93% of the decline. The selloff is more notable as foreign activity remained healthy: gross FGN flow returned to its 30-d median and was >30% above its 5-/7-d medians, pointing to active selling.

ALI (-2.5%) also came under pressure after failing to hold yday’s close above its 50-/100-d MAs, its first close above these levels since the Aug. 13 MSCI deletion announcement. Volume hit its highest since July 17, while AC/ALI buybacks remained absent. With both ICT and ALI weakening, 6,100 is the next key test.

August 25, 2026

PSEi broke below 6,200 support, but with T/O remaining subdued as investors stayed on the sidelines ahead of the Aug. 27 BSP meeting and Aug. 28 MSCI rebalancing. ALI (+4%) bucked the trend, reaching its highest level since the Aug. 13 announcement of its MSCI downgrade. This is also despite AC no longer buying since Aug. 17. JFC also continued to attract foreign interest after breaking ₱160.

ICT was again the main drag, accounting for 60% of the index decline as foreign demand continued to fade. With ICT at ~26% of the index, weaker ICT demand is increasingly constraining the PSEi, making continued strength in other heavyweights critical to offset the drag.

August 24, 2026
ICT (+1%) was the entire index gain today, after a +1.4% MOC gap-up. Foreign demand for ICT improved, but remains below normal. ICT returned to net foreign buying (+₱103mn), while gross foreign flow rose to 70% of its 30-d median (from 50%). Demand is recovering, but still not strong enough to call this a full return of foreign conviction.

Meanwhile, incremental foreign flows continue to broaden beyond ICT, with BPI, JFC and MER seeing notable demand. This is constructive for breadth, but ICT remains the key swing factor for the index.

August 20, 2026

PSEi closed at the high, led by ICT (+3%) after a +1.6% MOC gap-up. ICT drove 65% of the index gain, though gains were more broadly distributed pre-MOC. The rebound was more than technical: ICT was nearing oversold levels yday, while the overnight macro setup improved materially. US Treasury's plan to at least 2x 10Y–30Y buybacks should support lower US yields and a softer USD near term, providing a tailwind for the peso and PH equities barring a sharp oil spike.

ICT returned to net FGN buying after 3 sessions of outflows, but demand has yet to fully return. Gross FGN flow was in line with its 5-d median but ~30%/50% below its 7-/30-d medians. Selling pressure has eased, but buying conviction remains below normal.

ICT accounted for just 13% of ex-SPNEC-cross T/O, suggesting incremental flows remain distributed across other names. This is constructive for breadth, but with ICT now at 26.5% of the index, weaker FGN demand makes it harder for the PSEi to sustain a rally unless other heavyweights continue to pick up the slack.
