DTI: Buy LPG Only from Accredited Dealers

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) reminds the public to purchase Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) only from legitimate and accredited dealers to ensure safety and product quality.

With the rising cost of fuel, consumers are encouraged to be more vigilant and discerning in their purchases. Buying LPG from authorized distributors not only guarantees the correct weight and price but also ensures that the product has undergone proper safety checks and complies with existing standards.

DTI emphasizes that consumers should look for key indicators of safe and quality LPG. Cylinders should be properly sealed, free from defects such as rust or leaks, and must bear the required markings, including the Philippine Standard (PS) mark, brand name, date of manufacture and testing, capacity and tare weight, serial number or code number, and “Made in the Philippines” or the country of manufacture if imported. These markings help ensure that the LPG cylinder complies with safety and quality standards.

Consumers may also visit the website of the Department of Energy (DOE) to access the official list of accredited LPG manufacturers and dealers, ensuring that they purchase only from legitimate sources.

As the country experiences warmer temperatures during the summer season, the risk of LPG-related incidents may increase due to heat exposure and improper handling. In this regard, DTI strongly urges households and establishments to practice proper storage and handling of LPG tanks, keep them away from direct sunlight or heat sources and regularly check for possible leaks.

DTI-3 Regional Director Edna Dizon emphasized the importance of consumer vigilance in terms of product quality and safety.

“We urge the public to always prioritize safety by purchasing LPG only from accredited dealers. Ensuring that cylinders meet the required standards not only protects households but also prevents potential hazards, especially during the summer season,” the Director said.

The Department reiterates its commitment to protecting consumers and encourages the public to report any suspicious or illegal LPG trading activities to the nearest DTI office.
