WE HAVE TO TRADE OUR GOLD COIN
Points to ponder from the Parable of the Gold Coins, Luke 19:11-27
1. “See what you can earn with this while I am gone.”
We were all given the directive, responsibility and opportunity to grow our money, talents and resources according to our own abilities! The truth is we do not own the little money we have, yet He trusts us to multiply it! This is the essence of financial stewardship! We multiply the things entrusted to us not for our own selfish motives but according to His divine purpose! To love and share to others!
2. “I kept it hidden in a handkerchief. I was afraid of you, because you are a hard man.”
Fear will always paralyze us. If you we are too careful, nothing bad will happen, but nothing good will also happen! Do not let fear control our destiny! He is never a hard man! In fact, He wants us to share His joy! He wants us to enjoy an abundant life! We should not keep the gold coin, we should trade it! Taking risks is part of life!
3. ‘Well, then, why didn't you put my money in the bank? Then I would have received it back with interest when I returned.’
There are always vehicles to grow our money! We just need to look for these, understand how they work for our advantage and then jump aboard to ride our way towards our destination to financial freedom! What are these vehicles? Businesses! Assets! Investments! Insurance!
4. ‘I tell you,’ he replied, ‘that to those who have something, even more will be given; but those who have nothing, even the little that they have will be taken away from them.’
Rich people get richer because they have learned to overcome fear. They take risks. They work hard, save, invest, reinvest and reinvest! If they fail, they stand up and never give up! To the ones who are passive and who do not take the risk, keeping only what they have, time will come everything will be taken away. If we do not grow the little money we have, when S.A.D. things (Sickness, Aging, Disability/Death) come, everything we have will surely be taken away! The little money we keep today (the money we have earned for 10 years, 20 years or 30 years), is the same little money that will be taken by our hospital bills, maintenance medications, retirement, chemotherapy, bypass surgery and even for our funeral expenses! It may be too late to realize that in the end we have save nothing for our families!
Our master will surely come back! It will be then that we will account what have done with the gold coin he entrusted to us. Did we make another ten gold coins out of it? Did we make another five out of it? Or we will all just say to Him… ‘I have kept it under my pillow because I was afraid.’
