OG Fan ≠ Supreme Authority
Okay, real talk.
I’ve been following UNIS since Universe Ticket too. I watched these girls before UNIS even existed. I watched the performances, the rankings, the eliminations, the struggles, the arguments, the tears, the moments that made us proud, and the moments that made us nervous about whether our favorites would even make it.
So when I see some people acting like “I’m an OG, so I know better than you”, I honestly have to laugh a little.
I was there too.
And I remember these girls individually.
I was there when Yoona stood up against Ahn Seungbi in the 1:1 Battle and the Revenge Battle. I remember how intense those moments were and how Yoona fought for herself.
I was there when Hyeonju entered Universe Ticket with the experience of someone who had already been through the idol industry. She wasn't starting from zero. She was fighting for another chance.
I was there when Gehlee had to prove herself in an environment where she was already different from most of the other contestants. I remember people questioning her and slowly watching her prove them wrong. She was awesome in Nan and Fire.
I was there when Elisia started making people realize, “Okay, this girl is REALLY good.” She was so young, but she kept showing what she could do. She had me at Selfish.
I was there when Seowon was constantly being talked about because of her age, yet she kept holding her own on that stage.
I was there when Yunha kept growing throughout the competition and slowly became someone we couldn't imagine the final lineup without. I became a Yunha stan in Snickers.
I was there when Kotoko was still finding her place, and that quirky charm of hers slowly started becoming impossible to ignore. Remember her palm writing and licking charm? That was soo kawai!
I was there when Nana kept catching people's attention every time she performed. The confidence, the stage presence, the determination—you could tell she really wanted that spot. I loved her Girl On Top performance.
I remember all of that.
So yes, I have been here since Universe Ticket.
But here's the thing...
That doesn't make me the owner of UNIS history.
And it doesn't make anyone else's opinion less valid just because they discovered the girls later.
Some OG fans really need to stop treating “I've been here since Universe Ticket” like it's a qualification that automatically makes their opinion more correct.
It doesn't.
You might know something a newer fan doesn't know. That's fine.
You might remember a moment they didn't see. That's fine.
You might have a different perspective because you watched the whole journey unfold. Also fine.
But your experience is still your experience.
It's not the law.
You can be an OG and be wrong.
You can be a newer fan and make a perfectly valid observation.
You can have followed UNIS from the very beginning and still misunderstand a situation.
And someone who discovered UNIS yesterday is still allowed to say what they think.
That's literally what being in a fandom is.
It's not a competition over who got here first.
There isn't a “Senior EverAfter” position waiting for you after three years of service. 😂
And honestly, I don't understand the need to gatekeep.
If someone just discovered UNIS, why not be happy?
Why not say, “Oh, you're new? Let me tell you about Universe Ticket.”
Tell them about the girls.
Tell them about the battles.
Tell them about the moments that made you fall in love with them.
Tell them why certain moments were important.
Share the history instead of using it to make yourself feel superior.
Because if we really love UNIS, shouldn't we WANT more people to know them?
Shouldn't we want more people to support them?
I don't care if you became an EverAfter during Universe Ticket, during debut, during WE UNI, CURIOUS, SWICY, or UNISPARKLE, or literally five minutes ago.
You're welcome here.
You don't need to prove that you suffered through every Universe Ticket elimination to be a fan.
And to the people who keep pulling out the OG card like it's some kind of trump card:
Congratulations. You were here first.
👏👏👏
Now what?
Because being here first doesn't automatically make you smarter, more loyal, or more entitled to speak for everyone else.
It just means you discovered them earlier.
And I'd much rather see an OG fan say:
“I've been here since Universe Ticket. Let me show you why I love these girls.”
than:
“I've been here since Universe Ticket, so you don't understand UNIS like I do.”
One welcomes people.
The other pushes them away.
At the end of the day, we're all here because of eight girls who worked their asses off to become UNIS.
So let's stop measuring fandom by seniority.
Let's stop acting like we need an OG certificate.
And let's stop thinking our personal opinions are somehow the official UNIS constitution.
Your memories are valid.
Your experience is valid.
Your opinion is valid.
But so is theirs.
OG or new fan, we're all EverAfters.
And no one—no matter how long they've been here—has a monopoly on UNIS.
You were there first? Great.
I was there too.
Now let's just support the girls. ❤️
