“I need another salesperson—not a finance person.”
I've heard business owners say this.
And honestly, I understand.
Sales bring customers.
Customers bring revenue.
Revenue helps the business grow.
So why spend money on finance?
Here's the part we sometimes overlook:
More sales don't automatically mean more profit.
You can have growing revenue and still struggle with cash.
You can have busy operations and still have shrinking margins.
You can be profitable on paper and still wonder,
“Where did all the money go?”
This is where finance becomes more than bookkeeping.
Finance helps answer questions like:
• Which customers are actually profitable?
• Can we afford to hire?
• How much cash do we need to support growth?
• Why are sales increasing but cash isn't?
• Are we pricing our products/services correctly?
• What happens if sales suddenly slow down?
You don't hire finance instead of sales.
You need sales to drive growth.
But you need financial insight to make sure that growth is healthy, sustainable, and profitable.
Sales gets you moving.
Finance helps make sure you're moving in the right direction.
That's the difference.
