What if big tech companies start thinking na ang hirap pala talaga mag-operate sa Pilipinas?
And then, later on, umalis na lang bago pa man ma-ban ng Government.
That should worry us kasi hindi malabo mangyari yon ๐
Ngayon pa nga lang, even Big international brands like Astara, ibang P&G brands, Etude House, Tony Moly and Laneige, nag exit na sa Pinas. Innisfree and Mise en Scรจne may be next to leave.
Tayo lang naman nagtitiis sa pagpapahirap na to ng Gobyerno, kasi wala tayo choice kundi magcomply.
While big tech companies and other international businesses, may choice sila umalis.
Eh paano kung one day Meta looks at the Philippines and says,
"Ang daming requirements, regulatory risk and restrictions maybe we will just go somewhere else.โ
Sa totoo lang, Meta doesn't need the Philippines.
Google doesn't need the Philippines.
TikTok doesn't need the Philippines.
Yung ibban nila na discord and reddit, they donโt need philippines as well.
They WANT access to the Philippine market because there's opportunity here. Pero marami silang options to expand in other countries like Indonesia, Vientam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and India.
Yung capital and resources nila can move. That's what PH Government forget.
And right now, etong mga platform na to, hindi lang naman eto social media sa aten.
Meta is where Filipino businesses advertise. Run their business.
TikTok is where Filipinos sell.
YouTube is where creators build careers.
Google is where businesses get discovered.
Many students and business communities rely sa discord.
Well, sa Reddit, nandon ang chismis hehe.
These platforms have become part of the economic infrastructure.
Heto na yung primary sources of income ng karamihan.
So when the government tells these companies na magcomply sa ganito, register mo yang ganyan, kuha ka franchise...
At kapag hindi, there can be sanctions or even orders that restrict operations under Philippine law. Bawal na gumamit!
I'm not saying they shouldn't comply ha. They should follow the law.
Pero kasi, habang pinapahirapan natin silang mag operate, wala rin naman tayong ginagawa to make them want to stay.
What are we doing to make them want to expand? To invest dito?
What are we doing to make them say: โLet's put our next expansion in the Philippines.โ
Because that's the part that scares me.
Yung possibility na one day, they simply stop operating here.
That's why when I hear about another regulation, another restrictions and possible banning, I don't just think about losing access to my social media accounts.
I think about the Filipino entrepreneur who's building his entire business on top of these platforms.
Sa huli, tayo rin ang kawawa ๐
God bless the Philippines!! We're gonna need divine intervention at this point.
