Why is ANCIO building technology when many first came to know us through insurance?

The answer goes back further than ANCIO itself.

Our journey began with systems development, continued through economics, finance and insurance—and today, those experiences are coming together in the systems we are building.

We’re not leaving insurance behind. We’re building technology from what service has taught us.

When Systems Meet Service: Why ANCIO Is Building Technology

Serve. Learn. Build. Own. Scale. 💚

If you first came to know ANCIO through insurance, you may have noticed that we have increasingly been talking about technology, systems and artificial intelligence.

The Ancio family mourns the passing of Antonina “Nanay” Ilagan Cesario, founder of Mila’s Lechon.

Beyond building a beloved Filipino business, she generously helped our family during our own beginnings. Her kindness and support will always be part of our story.

We honor her life, legacy, and the many people she helped along the way.

Rest in peace, Tiya Nena. 🤍

The Philippines Has a Digital Economy. But Are We Building Enough of the Technology? 🇵🇭

The Philippine digital economy reached ₱2.74 trillion in 2025, equivalent to 9.8% of GDP.

That's significant progress.

But perhaps it's time to ask a harder question:

How much of the next generation of technology used by Filipinos will also be built and owned by Filipinos?

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, e-commerce accounted for 32.2% of our digital economy in 2025. ICT services contributed 27.1%, ICT manufacturing 13.6%, and ICT-enabled services 13.3%.

These are real strengths.

The Philippines has built a globally competitive services sector, a large digital consumer market, a substantial ICT workforce, and deep expertise serving some of the world's largest companies.

But what if the next chapter is about moving further up the value chain?

🇵🇭 From using technology to building it.
🇵🇭 From implementing platforms to creating them.
🇵🇭 From providing technical talent to owning more intellectual property.
🇵🇭 From serving global technology companies to building more Filipino technology companies that can serve the world.

Vietnam offers an interesting comparison.

Official Vietnamese statistics estimate its digital economy at 14.02% of GDP in 2025, with core digital industries alone accounting for 8.13% of GDP. The country has deliberately invested in software, electronics, semiconductor capabilities, AI, digital infrastructure, and domestic technology enterprises.

The lesson isn't that the Philippines should copy Vietnam.

And this isn't an argument against BPO or ICT services. Those industries have created jobs, expertise, global exposure, and an extraordinary pool of Filipino talent.

Perhaps they're part of the foundation for what comes next.

What if more of that talent starts building Philippine-owned software, AI products, digital platforms, and intellectual property?

The same question applies to financial services and insurance.

Technology can make protection simpler, more accessible, and more inclusive. Instead of merely adopting systems developed elsewhere, Filipino companies can also help build solutions around the realities of Filipino communities.

We don't have to choose between being a world-class services economy and becoming a technology-building economy.

We can be both.

The Philippines has the talent.

Perhaps the next challenge is to build more, own more, and eventually export more of what we create. 🇵🇭

Not all insurance is the same.
And one is never enough.

For many Overseas Filipino Workers, protection is often seen as a single policy.

But real protection is built in layers.

🟢 Layer 1 — OFW Insurance
Your basic protection while working abroad.
This is your foundation.

🟡 Layer 2 — Accident Protection
For unexpected incidents.
Covers disability, hospitalization, and sudden risks.

🔴 Layer 3 — Critical Illness Protection
If serious illness prevents you from working.
This protects your income and your family.

Each layer serves a different purpose.
They don’t overlap — they complete each other.

Because for those working far from home,
protection is not just about having insurance.

It’s about having the right structure.
