LEYTE SOUTH MULTI PURPOSE COOPERATIVE is among the youngest and largest Cooperative in the country. Following the voluntary tradition of a cooperative, it started its operation on July 1990 after the FUTURE FARMERS OF THE PHILIPPINES (FFP) canteen of PINTUYAN NATIONAL VOCATIONAL SCHOOL (PNVS) was closed. The said canteen was operated by the students and managed and supervised by the teachers-advis
ers of the organization. Students prepared foods during their Food Trades classes and sold them at the canteen. With its closure, students were forced to go downtown to take their snacks or buy school supplies whom usually got late in coming back and most often caused them cut classes. In an effort to solve the problem, the PNVS TEACHERS AND EMPLOYEES CLUB (TEC) with 37 members agreed to fund the re-opening of the canteen. Years later, the group expanded its services and provided small loans to its members. In 1996, the club having a paid-up capital of P52,600.00 decided to register with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and was granted accreditation thru Registry No. TAC 1526 on January 7, 1997 bearing the name of PNVS Multi Purpose Cooperative. It catered not only the needs of the students but also the household needs of its member, of which the school canteen eventually became a consumer store. On February 23, 2002 with the assistance of LAND BANK OF THE PHILIPPINES (LBP) and of SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT, INC. (SEAD Inc.,) formerly CARE PHILIPPINES, the MEMBERS’ SAVINGS OPERRATION (MSO) was launched in Brgy. Cruz, Pintuyan, Southern Leyte and provided Savings and Credit services to the community. This shifted the cooperative from being a “closed type” into an “open type” cooperative. Since then, membership has expanded even to the neighboring municipalities. On November 27, 2004, a branch office was opened at Poblacion, Liloan, Southern Leyte. Two years after, San Francisco Branch was opened on September 10, 2006. In pursuit to invade the Panaon Area of Southern Leyte, on March 10, 2007, is the birth of San Ricardo Branch. The Coop became ambitious that on December 18, 2008 it started operating at the Pacific Area of the province starting from the Municipality of San Juan which was eventually transferred to the Municipality of Anahawan on April 20, 2013. A newly inaugurated branch office in the Municipality of Hinunangan on October 25, 2015 was the latest addition to the chain of branches of the Cooperative, establishing dominance in the southernmost part of Leyte, hence our new name was derived LEYTE SOUTH MULTI PURPOSE COOPERATIVE duly approved by the general members on March 21, 2015. LEYTE SOUTH MULTI PURPOSE COOPERATIVE’S services to its members have evolved over the years, from being a school canteen it now became one of the sources of finance of its members. The Coop granted various forms of loan products for both the marginalized sectors to employed individuals, to the businessmen and even on members receiving allotment. Also included among others is the Savings Operation using the MASS SPECC Standard Run-Time Edition (MSRTE) Windows System which is an international software widely used by big cooperatives; the Mortuary and Health Assistance Programs; the CABLE TV Operation in Pintuyan Office. It has four (4) Automated Teller Machines and a Point of Sale (POS); it has Kwarta Padala using the facilities of SmartMoney and LBP Fund Transfer, and being a Bills Payment Center using the RuralNet internet facility. A 4-storey commercial building was constructed in the Municipality of Liloan as a latest addition to its properties. The building houses the coop branch office and the Cooperative’s Hotel and Resto with state of the art amenities which started its operation on November 2016. On January 7, 2015, LEYTE SOUTH MPC was accredited by Social Security System as a Collecting Partner Agent and was subsequently confirmed by Social Security Commission. Given the chance, LEYTE SOUTH MPC is among the only four Cooperatives duly accredited by the SSS and only one in Region VIII accredited by Philippine Statistic Office formerly NSO to process documents. The Cooperative enhances its management team thru the help of its mentors, the VISAYAS Cooperative Development Center or VICTO NATIONAL and the COOP NATCCO Network which gave series of trainings and workshops for effective handling of Coop Operations. For Twenty (20) progressive years, LEYTE SOUTH MULTI PURPOSE COOPERATIVE is the most promising and successful cooperative in the province. It has grown dramatically and continuously spread the coop virus and played a very significant role in the economic development in the areas where it operates as its tagline goes..”sa KOOPeratiba, muASENSO ka.”
