ADB and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) on 26 August discussed opportunities to advance investment and development across Mindanao as part of the ADB Board Group Visit in Davao.

The dialogue surfaced shared priorities on infrastructure development, connectivity, renewable energy, and private sector support, providing an opportunity to identify areas where stronger partnerships can help translate Mindanao’s development potential into areas of inclusive and sustainable growth.

ADB also met with the of Transportation - Philippines-Davao Public Transport Modernization Project team and some project stakeholders to discuss updates on the project and the government’s vision for upgrading public transport in the country’s largest city by land area.

At the ASEAN High-Level Conference on Connectivity in Manila today, ADB President Masato Kanda urged governments to move faster on the cross-border power, transport, digital, and financial links the region's economic security now rests on.

ASEAN needs at least $210 billion in infrastructure investment a year. ADB will mobilize up to $30 billion by 2030, including up to $10 billion to build the region’s cross-border grid.

ADB Philippines observed DSWD Bicol’s distribution of emergency cash assistance in Daet and Capalonga, which is supported by the Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund grant through the Typhoon Tino and Uwan Emergency Response Project. This provided an opportunity to hear directly from the LGU, DSWD staff, and eligible families how the emergency cash assistance helped affected communities recover faster from the impacts of disasters and extreme weather events.

ADB continues to work with the Philippine government and local partners to strengthen disaster resilience and social protection systems that help vulnerable households recover and rebuild more quickly from disaster shocks.

The DOST Philippines's NuLab bus, a mobile laboratory equipped with interactive learning modules and tools, brings hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) learning directly to students.

ADB is exploring how to further support initiatives like this to help expand access to quality education, especially for young people in underserved communities in the Philippines.
