Financial Planner | YAMAN Coach™️ of Personal Finance Advisers Philippines Corporation Our passion in dancing keeps us alive.

It does not matter what genre you dance. Even so we need to be financially fit to support it. As the famous character, Moose (played by Adam G. Sevani) related in the 2014 film Step Up: All In, “I’ve got a lot of responsibility. Dance competitions are fun and all, but they’re NOT gonna PAY THE BILLS.”

That is why Finance and Beats is established to give a helping hand and guide you to your own financial freedom journey.

“If you don’t take risks, you can’t create a future.”

True—but only to a point.

In finance, business or life, taking risks simply to move forward isn’t always wise. An unconsidered risk can quickly become reckless, leaving you exposed to serious losses.

A more sensible approach is to take calculated risks: understand what you stand to gain, what you could lose, and whether you’re prepared for the potential outcome.

The goal isn’t to avoid risk altogether. It’s to recognize which risks are worth taking.

Your household is your first business, and your financial plan serves as its financial statement.

Just as companies use financial statements to assess their financial health, you can examine your income, expenses, assets, and liabilities to understand your overall financial position.

However, unlike a business, personal finances are also shaped by emotions, relationships, goals, and circumstances—factors that numbers alone cannot fully capture.

A dose of inspiration this Saturday, mga ka-dancer

Before National Book Store became part of almost every Filipino student’s life, Nanay Coring Ramos already knew what it felt like to lose almost everything.

During World War II, their small bookstore was burned to the ground.

They rebuilt.

Then in 1948, a typhoon ripped off the roof of their store and destroyed their merchandise. Nanay Coring remembered it simply, “We were back to zero.”

And yet, they built again.

No shortcuts. No overnight success. She and her husband worked long hours and did practically everything themselves, from managing the store to cleaning it.

Years later, when asked what principles guided her life, Nanay Coring gave a simple answer, “Work hard. Be frugal. Persevere.”

I love that because life can bring you back to places you thought you had already outgrown. A failed business. A lost opportunity. A season when it feels like everything you worked for disappeared overnight.

But being back at zero does not mean you have nothing.

You still have what you learned.
You still have your experience.
You still have your faith.

“Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.” - Proverbs 24:16

Starting over is not failure. It may be the very chapter that changes your whole story.
