“For these K9 heroes, food is the only income they will ever receive.”
They don’t get salaries.
All they ask for is a meal and in return, they give everything:
Their strength, their loyalty, even their lives.
But looking at this dog’s frail body, you can’t help but wonder…
Is even that ‘income’ enough?
IT WASN’T THE EXPLOSION THAT SPARKED THE MOST CONCERN, IT WAS THE K9.
On Sunday, 2025 August 3, an explosion rocked Tondo, injuring four people. The news spread fast online BUT STRANGELY, it wasn’t the blast that drew the most attention.
IT WAS THE K9 in the background who captured in a now-viral photo.
Not because he was in uniform.
Not even because he was brave (though he truly is)...
BUT BECAUSE OF HIS APPEARANCE AND CONDITION.
Despite clearly not being in the best shape- his body thin, his bones showing yet he still stood alert. Focused. Doing his duty beside his handler, like the hero he is.
It was a moment that quietly broke hearts.
And that’s when the questions began:
WHY DOES A WORKING K9 LOOK LIKE THIS?
HOW CAN A DOG IN ACTIVE SERVICE APPEAR NEGLECTED?
Of course, we don’t know all the ccircumstances But one thing became clear... PEOPLE NOTICED.
Advocates, animal lovers, and ordinary citizens began speaking up.
NOT TO SHAME. NOT TO ATTACK.
BUT TO ASK FOR BETTER.
This single image started something bigger:
A national conversation on K9 welfare.
A call to review standards and systems.
A plea for compassion from those in charge.
We hope this reaches the Manila Police leadership with the respect it’s intended.
We hope it leads to reflection and action.
Because these K9s are not just tools...
They are living, breathing HEROES.
And if food is truly the only income they’ll ever receive…
LET’S MAKE SURE IT’S ENOUGH
to keep them alive, strong, and loved.
Because these K9s are not just man’s best friend.....
They are OFFICERS.
They are PUBLIC SERVANTS.
They are HEROES in their own right...
serving quietly, risking their lives, and asking for nothing but care in return.
