Luke 10:1-12

Memorial of Saint Therese of the Child Jesus

“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.” Jesus looks at the world and sees hearts ready to receive grace, people longing for peace, families needing healing, and lives waiting for hope. Then He sends His disciples into that harvest two by two. His call is personal, yet His work unfolds through people who learn to serve side by side.

Being sent in pairs says something simple and important about faith. God often gives us companions for the road—a spouse, a friend, a co-worker, a fellow servant, someone who shares the weight of a responsibility. One may bring courage when the other feels tired; one may notice what the other misses. Through these ordinary relationships, God strengthens us and teaches us how to become a source of strength for others.

From there, the Gospel moves straight into daily life. We follow Jesus while raising children, caring for parents, working through tension, making difficult choices, and showing up for people who count on us. These moments form the heart. They teach us patience, humility, forgiveness, and generosity. They also show us that serving God often begins with how faithfully we treat the person in front of us.

And that is where the harvest comes into view. It is found in a child who needs guidance, a friend who needs to be heard, a family relationship ready for healing, a co-worker carrying something quietly, or a community that needs willing hands. Jesus sends His disciples into homes, roads, and conversations—the places where real life happens. God still meets us there, in the ordinary encounters that ask for our attention and love.

Today’s Gospel invites us to look at the life already entrusted to us. Where is God asking me to bring peace, encouragement, or care? Who is He asking me to serve more generously? The harvest is abundant, and every faithful response opens a little more space for God’s Kingdom to grow.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to the harvest already around me. Teach me to serve with others in humility, patience, and love. Lead us where You need us, and let our lives make Your presence known. Amen.
