DAILY SPARK (SEPTEMBER 28)

I read this story about a group of students wanting to be expert marksmen.

One day, when they were out training, their teacher asked them to shoot at a bird perched on a branch of a distant tree.

He asked the three of them, what do you see? The first student replied, I see a bird on a branch of an oak tree. The second one said the same. The third student said, I see a bird.

The teacher asked, what else?

The third student replied, nothing else. And proceeded to hit the bird successfully.

Often, in our own lives, we have targets we want to hit. And interestingly, the challenge lies not in our inability to see the target. It's that we see other things aside from the target.

We get distracted. Our attention becomes divided and scattered.

We succumb to the shiny-bright-object syndrome. Or we get attracted to the 67th 'BIGGEST', last-na-'to-pramis-never-to-be-repeated sale ever.

And it is in our distraction that we trip ourselves up and inevitably, miss the mark.
