Kaye Abad thought she already had the life she wanted.
She had stepped away from showbiz, built a quiet life in Cebu, became a wife and mother, and enjoyed the simple routines of being with her family.
Then cancer came.
While watching her children perform at school, one thought would suddenly hit her, “What if this is the last time I will see them perform?”
Her boys were only seven and three.
That experience changed the way she looked at life.
“Treasure your life. Life is short. Totoo pala talaga ’yun.”
For Kaye, it meant spending more time with her children, showing up while they still wanted Mommy around, taking care of her health, forgiving people, and no longer wasting too much energy on things that do not matter.
We often think there will always be another day to visit, forgive, rest, say “I love you,” or make memories.
But life does not always give us a warning. So treasure the ordinary days too.
The moments we casually let pass are the very moments we would give anything to have again.
