LOOK: NEW MANILA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT GROUNDBREAKING SET FOR JANUARY 2026!
The New Manila International Airport (NMIA) in Bulakan, Bulacan will officially break ground in January 2026, marking a major milestone in efforts to decongest NAIA and expand the country’s aviation capacity.
Developed by San Miguel Aerocity Inc. (SMAI) under a ₱735-billion, 50-year Build-Operate-Transfer deal, the massive 2,500-hectare project—located about 35 kilometers north of Metro Manila—will feature a 350,000-sqm terminal with five wings and 240 boarding gates, plus four parallel runways.
Phase 1 is set for completion by November 2028, accommodating up to 35 million passengers annually, with plans to expand capacity to 100 million. The airport will also have direct access to NLEX, MRT-7, and NALEX to Skyway Stage 3 for improved connectivity.
Originally targeted for 2027, the project faced delays due to reclamation suspensions and supply shortages, which pushed costs higher. Once completed, NMIA will become the largest and most advanced airport in the Philippines, serving as a long-term solution to NAIA’s overcapacity.
