Finance Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno said during the European-Philippine Business Dialogue, organized by the ECCP - European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, that resuming the free trade agreement (FTA) negotiation with the European Union (EU) will be a vital component to the Philippines’ trade policy agenda.

“The FTA will be an ideal platform to optimize the benefits of the large EU market and a permanent mechanism to fuel our economic relations,” Secretary Diokno added.

The country’s strategic objectives in engaging the EU in an FTA include securing additional duty-free market access, providing a conducive framework for attracting greater investments from the EU, and remaining at par with other ASEAN member states who are pursuing FTAs with the EU.

The 2023 European-Philippine Business Dialogue featured a series of high-level discussions on how the Philippines can maximize its competitive advantage as an investment destination and bring the country’s economy to new heights.

Attention bookworms!

Are you planning to purchase books from abroad?

Good news! You can import books to the Philippines without paying any customs duties and taxes, as long as they are not intended for advertising purposes.

But take note, there are limits to the number of copies you can bring in. As an individual importer or recipient, you can only import up to six (6) copies of a single book, while institutional importers or recipients may import up to twelve (12) copies of any one book.
