๐Ÿ‘ฉ Women's leadership is climate resilience.
Climate resilience is not only about infrastructure, technology, or finance. It also depends on who has a voice in decisions and who has the confidence and skills to lead change.

๐ŸŒŽ A new insight from ADB's Development Asia explores what the Women's Leadership and Climate Resilience Training in Fiji can teach us how about investing in women's agency, confidence, and climate knowledge can help build more resilient and inclusive communities.

The training was delivered under the Asia Pacific Support for Promoting Innovation and Resilience in Environmental Leadership (ASPIRE) for Women, a special initiative of the Urban Resilience Trust Fund (URTF), financed from the Government of the United Kingdom through the Climate Action for a Resilient Asia (CARA) programme.

The Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA) Trust Fund marked 2025 as a year of strategic realignment and renewed momentum in helping cities prepare bankable, investment-ready projects.

Since its establishment in 2007, CDIA has supported 124 project preparation studies across 143 cities in 22 developing member countries. To date, 97 of these studies have been linked to downstream investments estimated at $13.7 billion.

Women often shoulder the primary caregiving responsibilities in most families. When climate impacts like storms, floods, or droughts hit their homes and communities, they are usually the first to respond. Yet they remain underrepresented in leadership and decision-making.

๐ŸŽฅ Watch how the Asian Development Bank and The Fiji National University are working together through a ๐—ž๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜„๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฝ, signed in May 2026, to strengthen womenโ€™s leadership for climate resilience across the Pacific. Building resilience means ensuring women have the knowledge, skills, and opportunities to lead.

The partnership will develop a structured short course to equip women in government with practical leadership skills while embedding climate resilience into Fiji National Universityโ€™s academic programs. Running through 2027, it will also produce case studies, and regional knowledge products to help scale learning across the Pacific.

๐Ÿค” How can we reduce the plastic reaching rivers and oceans? ๐ŸŒŠ

The Mulan River Basin in Fujian Province, People's Republic of China (PRC) employs a catchment approach to manage plastic pollution. The method makes it possible to understand not only where plastics were generated, but also how they moved through interconnected landscapes and waterways, allowing governments to address the issue before eventually reaching the sea.

Water underpins our health, our food, and our energy.

Speaking at the International Symposium Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Japan's Water Day, ADB President Masato Kanda called for faster investment and reform to protect water across the region.

There's real progress to build on: since 2013, about three in five people have moved out of extreme water insecurity. But the gains are fragile.

A new ADB-administered fund with Japan will help developing economies strengthen disaster preparedness, infrastructure, and water management: https://ow.ly/rhy950ZtH35
