We welcome those from other regions who are willing to collaborate and share their own solutions.

Banjihas or semi-basement flats comprised about 5% of all households in in 2020. Marginalized groups are more likely to reside in Banjihas because of their lower rents, but are at higher risk of flooding due to extreme weather events.

In 2022, the Seoul Metropolitan introduced the Banjiha Transformation Initiative, which provides residents with alternative accommodation in public rental and offers landlords a transition period to repurpose Banjiha for non-residential use. Within a year, 3,671 households were moved to public rental housing and 538 Banjihas were purchased and transformed into multifunctional spaces such as a mushroom farm.

In , the Institute of Civil and Building Technology pilot-tested the application of warm mix asphalt , which is produced with less consumption than conventional hot mix asphalt.

Based on laboratory results, the warm mix asphalt showed 10% greater resistance to cracking and 28% greater resistance to deformation than the conventional mixture. Wider adoption of warm mix asphalt could support the transition of developing countries like Viet Nam toward lower-carbon construction.
