Common HMO Terms Explained

What is Pre-existing Condition?

Pre-Existing Condition or PEC.

It refers to an illness, injury, or medical condition that “existed or had already begun before your HMO coverage started, even if you were not aware/diagnosed of it.”

Examples: Hypertension, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, and other conditions that existed before coverage.

What about PEC coverage?

It depends on your HMO plan. Corporate or group plans may offer 100% PEC coverage from day one with no waiting period. Individual and family plans may provide partial PEC coverage based on a percentage of the MBL or peso value, which can vary by HMO, plan and years of membership .

In simple terms:
PEC coverage is different for every HMO plan. Always make sure the PEC limit, MBL, waiting periods, exclusions, and limitations are clearly explained and understood before you buy.
