Tonight I sat down for dinner with one of my Unit Managers and her newest teammates.

No agenda. No presentation.
Just food, conversation, and the beginning of trust.

Before the night was over, one of the rookies said something:

"Si Ate Ynna, very hands on. Wala kami masabi. From review until makapasa ng exam hanggang ngayon, sobrang supportive"

Hindi ito nanggaling sa akin as her Branch Manager

Nanggaling ito sa mga tao na nilelead nya

That is the kind of leadership that builds her team.

Ngayong araw na ito, nakatanggap ako ng dalawang letter mula sa Underwriting.

Dalawang applications.
Dalawang pamilya.
Dalawang tao na gustong ma-protektahan ang sarili nila.

Parehong declined.

Hindi dahil hindi sila qualified.
Hindi dahil hindi sila kayang bayaran ang premium.

Declined dahil sa medical condition - isang kondisyon na wala silang kontrolado, isang kondisyon na hindi pa nila alam nang gusto pa nilang kumuha ng insurance.

Ang isa ay 30 taong gulang.
Ang isa ay 37.

Ulit ko iyon:

Tatlumpu't pito.

Hindi matanda. Hindi maysakit sa hitsura.
Nagtatrabaho. May pamilya. May plano para sa kinabukasan.

Pero ngayon, ang insurance na gusto niyang kunin - hindi na available sa kanya sa mga kondisyon na kailangan niya.

Ito ang katotohanan na hindi sinasabi ng karamihan:

Ang insurance ay hindi tinatanggihan dahil ikaw ay mahirap, o bata, o walang trabaho.

Tinatanggihan ito kapag ang katawan mo ay hindi na kwalipikado at hindi mo malalaman iyon hanggang sa mag-apply ka na.

Bilang isang Financial Planner, ito ang pinaka-masakit na bahagi ng aking trabaho.

Hindi ang pagbebenta.
Hindi ang papeles.

Ang pag-deliver ng balitang "hindi na namin kaya."

Kaya ito ang sinasabi ko sa lahat - sa mga 20s, 30s, kahit mga bata pang nagtatrabaho:

Ang pinakamahusay na oras para kumuha ng insurance ay hindi "kapag kailangan mo na."

Ang pinakamahusay na oras ay habang hindi mo pa kailangan.

Habang bata ka pa.
Habang malusog ka pa.
Habang bukas pa ang lahat ng pagpipilian mo.

Kapag nagsara na ang pinto - walang sinuman sa amin ang makakapagbukas ulit nito.
