Mitsubishi Corp. is making a ₱44.5 billion vote of confidence in Ayala Corp. and the Philippines, more than tripling its economic stake in the Zobel-led conglomerate to 15% in one of the country’s biggest foreign investments in recent years.

The Japanese trading house will invest in Ayala at ₱650 per common share, a sizable premium to the stock’s recent volume-weighted average price, through a combination of primary and secondary shares and a voluntary tender offer.
