π HOW IS THE INTEREST CALCULATED?
FLAT-RATE INTEREST:
The annual interest is calculated based on the original approved principal amount, not the remaining balance.
Example:
β±100,000 loan Γ 8% = β±8,000 interest per year
If the loan is payable over multiple years, the total interest depends on the agreed repayment period and loan agreement.
REDUCING-BALANCE INTEREST:
Interest is calculated based on the remaining principal balance. As you make principal payments, the balance decreases, so the interest charged also decreases.
π Your loan agreement will clearly state whether the interest is calculated using a flat rate or reducing balance method, together with the total amount payable and repayment schedule.
