"Since it’s not a secret and I’m perfectly fine now, I will share a story that happened a few months back.
I underwent angioplasty around 2 months ago. I had two blocked arteries, one was 95% blocked and the other was 65% blocked. Yes, it’s not that major of an operation but it was a significant one. I did the procedure in Singapore and I would’ve spent 2.1M pesos if it wasn’t for my Critical Illness Insurance. After everything was settled, my insurance ended up covering 1.8M of the total cost. Imagine that!
I’m sharing this story for several reasons.
1st and foremost, take care of your health. Years of abuse, overeating, over drinking, under sleeping and lack of recovery will take a toll on you.
2nd, why did I get a critical illness insurance? A lot of my friends (also a lot of insurance agents) know that I don’t believe in life insurance. I would rather invest in my own business than investing in one. The returns and how much you have to place annually doesn’t make business sense. In my case, 480k annually for 10 years for a life insurance of 10M. Doesn’t really move the needle for me.
But a critical illness insurance where, Farah, Nate and I pay roughly 180k annually for an individual coverage of 100M a year? That makes more sense. In my case, the 1.8M they covered for my procedure is equal to 22 years of my annual premium. Umpisa palang ROI na ako! 😅
As a business man, what you need is a continuity insurance, you don’t want to use 2M, 10M or 20M of your revolving funds on illness. You would rather want to re-invest it in your business as you recover.
3rd, choose an Insurance company that is both stable and easy to deal with. I actually applied with another Critical Illness Insurance company before Allianz PNB Life. The process was more tedious. The other company was more rigid. I guess they have been longer in the Philippines that’s why they think they can be less caring? I really do not know.
Luckily, I was approved and insured by Allianz. The process was hassle-free. Getting hassled is the last thing you want to be while you’re anticipating a procedure.
4th and the most important is to get an Insurance Agent you trust. Someone who you know will fight for you. Someone who will treat you more than just a transaction. Thank you, Marilou Luardo and Gerald Luardo. I literally owe you my life. When they asked if I can be featured, I agreed because it’s the least I can do for them.
Hopefully, my story will make you think and eventually act on something you can actually control now while you’re still relatively healthy.
Thank you to my wife, Farah Choa, for accompanying me and pushing me to get healthier. 50th wedding anniversary is our goal! Thanks you, Roger L. Chiu, for convincing us to have our check-up in Singapore. Best decision ever. Thank you also, Cesar Wee, for accompanying me and Nate. It’s something you didn’t have to do but you still did."
