A Glimpse of the Filipino Family
Hello everyone. A post-pandemic survey (Inquirer-7-2-2025) on the portrait of the Filipino family showed a rebound in weddings in 2020, with a record-high 25.9 percent increase compared to the previous year. The figure was exhilarating, but the trend failed to sustain itself, as the following years showed a steady decline in weddings, as recorded by the PSA. More than that, it was discovered that cohabitation among women aged 15-49 with a live-in partner increased, and their numbers have quadrupled in the last three decades. More alarming is the discovery of 2.4 million Filipinos aged 15-24, living with partners outside of marriage. In rural areas, young women look forward to marriage but end up in cohabitation. With many couples living in a cohabitation status, more children are being born out of wedlock. What is presented above is just an iceberg in a wide array of reasons for the kind of family we have. As Christians, we cannot remain indifferent. This page is committed to setting the appropriate tone for marriage, both for those aspiring to marriage and for those who are already married, to enrich their journey toward a happy, productive family life. Could you share your insights and be an apostle for family and life?
