𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝟭𝟲𝟱 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗸𝗶𝗱𝗻𝗼𝗻 🌾

A total of 165 farmers participated in Days 3 and 4of CLIMBS’ Climate Resilience and Farmer Protection Capacity Building in Bukidnon, expanding access to practical knowledge on financial preparedness, climate risks, and farm protection.

Day 3 brought together 72 farmers from Bukidnon Government Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BUGEMCO), FARCO, and Kauyagan Savers Multi-Purpose Cooperative. On Day 4, the program reached 93 Indigenous Peoples (IP) farmers from the Talaandig community in Talakag, Bukidnon.

With support from Catholic Relief Services (CRS), CLIMBS strengthened its engagement with farming and Indigenous communities whose livelihoods are directly exposed to climate-related risks.

Ms. Cristine A. Galupo-Ytang, Agriculturist II of DA–ATI RTC 10, led discussions on climate-smart agriculture, complemented by sessions on financial literacy and insurance literacy.

Participants were also introduced to Weather Protect Insurance–Climate Shield, including how predefined weather conditions can trigger payouts and how this protection can complement existing measures to manage climate-related risks.

Through collaboration with cooperatives, CRS, agricultural partners, and Indigenous communities, CLIMBS continues to bring climate resilience learning and climate protection solutions closer to the grassroots.

Reaching 165 farmers across the two days marks another measurable step toward strengthening the capacity of farming communities in Bukidnon to better understand, prepare for, and respond to climate risks.

This activity forms part of CLIMBS’ participation in the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA) Programme of the UN World Food Programme Innovation Accelerator and the AFCIA Sprint Programme in Asia.

Cooperatives working in crisis response, post-crisis recovery, livelihood strengthening, and cooperative development are invited to express their interest in the first distribution cycle of the Fund for International Cooperative Development (FICD).

During the recently concluded ICA Global Conference and General Assemblies in Panama, CLIMBS President and CEO Noel D. Raboy, in his capacity as a Director of FICD, announced that the Fund is moving from establishment to action with the opening of its first distribution cycle.

As an early member of FICD, CLIMBS is sharing this opportunity with its cooperative network and partners, connecting eligible cooperatives with a global initiative built on cooperation, solidarity, and long-term cooperative development.

The Fund aims to strengthen cooperative-led responses to crises, support the recovery of livelihoods, and build stronger cooperative networks and partnerships.

For communities exposed to drought, climate protection matters most when it can translate into timely support for livelihoods and household recovery.

Throughout September 2026, CLIMBS facilitated Weather Protect Insurance (WPI) Drought and Rainfall Payouts across 20 cooperatives in Region I, helping bring climate-risk protection closer to communities affected by prolonged dry conditions.

The payouts were carried out in collaboration with partner cooperatives across five dates:
- September 3: Lingayen Catholic Credit Cooperative; Pangasinan State University Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Provincial Gov’t Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative; United Primary MPC
- September 17: Coop Bank of La Union; Saytan Savings Multi-Purpose Cooperative; St. Louis Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Tubao Multi-Purpose Cooperative; La Union Multi-Purpose Cooperative

- September 18: San Basilio Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Sugpon Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Suyo Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Kailian Multi-Purpose Cooperative; St. Lucy Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Alilem Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Sta. Cruz Savings and Development Cooperative; Sacred Heart Savings Cooperative

- September 21: Candon City Gov’t Employees MPC

- September 22: Ilocos Norte PNP, Ladies and Civilian MPC; GLEDCO Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Ilocos Consolidated Cooperative Bank

This 20-cooperative reach across Region I provides a measurable picture of how climate-risk protection is moving from coverage to actual response.

Through the cooperative network, WPI helps connect affected communities to support when predefined drought conditions are met.

The collaboration also reinforces a larger commitment: to expand access to practical climate-risk protection, strengthen community preparedness, and help more families and livelihoods recover from weather-related disruptions.

Each payout represents protection put into action—a step toward stronger, more resilient communities ready to face climate challenges.

Building climate resilience requires more than offering protection—it requires making sure communities understand how that protection works and when it can respond.

On September 28, 2026, CLIMBS brought together 143 participants from 59 cooperatives and organizations for its Weekly Online Session on Weather Protect Insurance (WPI), presented by Mr. Ruel T. Arsua, Assistant Vice President for Administration and Corporate Planning.

The session provided participants with a deeper understanding of parametric insurance, climate insurance solutions, weather triggers, and how WPI can support communities in managing climate-related risks.

Through continuing learning sessions like this, CLIMBS strengthens its commitment to equip cooperative partners with the knowledge needed to communicate climate protection more effectively, support informed decisions, and help communities prepare for the impacts of extreme weather.

Because when cooperatives understand climate risks and available solutions, they become stronger partners in building more resilient families, livelihoods, and communities.

𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Mangrove restoration helps strengthen coastal protection, support marine ecosystems, and build resilience in communities exposed to climate-related risks. In Cantaan, Camiguin, this commitment was translated into action through another Plant a SEED mangrove planting activity led by CLIMBS CARES.

The initiative brought together Mambajao Multi-Purpose Cooperative, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, Barangay Council of Cantaan, and DENR Camiguin—showing how local institutions, government agencies, and cooperatives can work together toward a common environmental goal.

Beyond the activity itself, Plant a SEED forms part of a wider movement to mobilize cooperatives, communities, and partners to help plant 1 million mangroves every year, leading toward 5 million mangroves by 2030.

Through Coop Sustain, cooperatives can also document and account for initiatives like this, helping transform individual actions into measurable contributions and providing a clearer picture of the cooperative sector’s collective environmental impact.

Every mangrove planted is one contribution. Together, these actions can help build stronger, more resilient coastal communities.

Through CLIMBS CARES, CLIMBS continues to lead its Plant a SEED initiative with the planting of 5,000 mangrove seedlings in Punta Blanca, Mobod, Oroquieta City, together with the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company and the Barangay Council.

Beyond restoring coastal ecosystems, this initiative supports stronger and more climate-resilient communities by bringing cooperatives, communities, and partners together toward a shared goal: planting 1 million mangroves every year and reaching 5 million mangroves by 2030.

Plant a SEED transforms sustainability commitments into meaningful action on the ground. Through Coop Sustain, cooperatives can also document, measure, and account for their sustainability initiatives, helping showcase the collective environmental contribution of the cooperative sector.
