Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Sophie who wanted to save up her allowance to buy a new bike. She had heard about something called a "mutual fund" from her mom, who said it was a good way to save up money for big purchases.

Sophie's mom explained that a mutual fund was like a big bucket where people could put their money together to buy different things, like stocks or bonds. A professional manager would help decide what to buy and sell with the money in the bucket.

Sophie was excited and asked her mom if they could start a mutual fund together. So, every week, Sophie would put a portion of her allowance into the mutual fund.

Over time, the mutual fund started to earn money from the stocks and bonds it owned. As the value of the mutual fund went up, Sophie's savings grew too.

When Sophie had saved up enough money to buy her new bike, she went to the mutual fund and "sold" her shares. This meant that she got some of her money back from the mutual fund to use to buy her bike.

Sophie was so happy to have her new bike, and she was glad that she had learned about mutual funds and how they could help her save up for the things she wanted.

Here is a table that shows how peso cost averaging works:

In this example, John is investing $100 every month and the stock price is fluctuating. Despite the changes in the stock price, John is able to purchase a fixed number of shares each month, which helps to average out the cost of his investment. The average cost of his shares is $100, which is lower than if he had tried to time the market and purchase all of his shares when the price was at its lowest.

Peso Cost Investment Strategy

Peso cost averaging is a strategy used by investors to reduce the impact of volatility on the price of their investments. It involves investing a fixed amount of money at regular intervals, regardless of the price of the investment. This helps to average out the cost of the investment over time and can potentially lead to lower overall costs.

For example, let's say that John is interested in investing in a company's stock. He decides to use the peso cost averaging strategy and invests $100 every month, regardless of the stock's price. In the first month, the stock is trading at $10 per share, so John is able to purchase 10 shares. In the second month, the stock's price has increased to $12 per share, so John is only able to purchase 8.3 shares. In the third month, the price has dropped to $8 per share, and John is able to purchase 12.5 shares.

Over time, the average cost of John's shares will be lower than if he had tried to time the market and purchase all of his shares at the lowest price. This is because he is consistently buying a fixed number of shares, rather than trying to predict when the price will be at its lowest. Peso cost averaging can help to reduce the overall risk of investing and can be a useful strategy for long-term investors.

And PSE is finally done for 2022! As always we adjourn by honest-to-goodness presentation of our CIA investments - the old equities basket which started at P300k, and the newer US$ equity fund started at the Covid lows March 2020.

- US$ fund - wow all 2021 gains gone in 2022!
- Peso equities basket - easy strategy how I beat PSEi's -7.8% return. I had no trades at all for 2022 :D lol ipon-ipon lang ng cash dividends so cash is now 8% of portfolio; and since 8% *4.4M = 350k I guess I already got back the 300k I put in decades ago hehehe

Investing was tough in 2022 so give yourselves a pat in the back. Compare though with Bitcoin which dived -64.2% this year from $46400 to $16600 huhu.

Without Failure There Would Be No Story – Keep Going!

you don’t have to succeed at everything you do. Sometimes it just matters that you showed up to try. If you are unhappy with your performance, you can always try again tomorrow. People talk themselves out of trying because they are afraid of making a mistake. You can always make a mistake, and that is not an excuse to not even show up.
