Damayan - Oplan Sulat at Basa Empowering the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) through Educational Support books, writing and creativity materials) that may not be accessible to them. Noriel Villaluz

DAMAYAN is a non-profit, non-partisan, non-sectarian and non-governmental organization, and a ground-up initiative of and by Brooke’s Pointers for Brooke’s Point. It is a brainchild of a group of young idealists, accomplished, ambitious, committed and patriotic Brooke’s Pointers who wanted to see and contribute positive changes to the social, environmental, and economic developments of our municip

ality through the spirit of “damayan” or collective effort. The said organization aims to provide a platform and an opportunity for concerned young citizens to give back to and effect changes in our municipality without being involved politically. The group is mainly composed of young professionals and youth supporters who belong to different sectors, offering various expertise and supporting diverse advocacies such as on health, Indigenous Peoples (IPs), youth and women empowerment, environment, agriculture and education. For example, one of our launching programs was the “Oplan Sulat at Basa” (see Facebook/OplanSulatAtBasa) that helps empower the IPs through educational support. Acknowledging the challenges faced by the Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and the limitation in the support they receive in terms of education as a social service, we established a ground-up initiative that aims to reach out to the IP students in the far-flung areas through the program ( Read and Write). The program’s main objective is to help Indigenous children through educational empowerment, by giving them the opportunity to learn through the provision of materials needed to learn reading and writing (e.g. We hope to add more projects and implement more programs in the coming months and years. The organization is currently in the process of getting a local accreditation and registration from the Stock and Exchange Commission (SEC) for incorporation. This initiative is composed and led by the following:
