The Company had its humble beginnings when the then Mabuhay Insurance & Guaranty Co., Inc. was established on March 21, 1960 as a wholly owned Filipino non-life insurance company.
Mr. David C. Mercado, together with the other new shareholders, became the new owner of Mabuhay Insurance & Guaranty Co., Inc. when he acquired the firm in December 1980. Immediately thereafter, the new Management Team of Mr. Mercado changed the corporate name to what is now known as Stronghold Insurance Company, Inc. This was duly approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 22, 1981.
The Company was able to create a name in the insurance industry as a dependable provider of various non-life insurance coverages. It was able to withstand the pecuniary effects of the huge losses brought about by natural causes that struck our country thru the settlement of legitimate claims filed with the Company.
In line with our Commitment of making our products and services easily available to the ever growing number of clienteles and stakeholders in various places of the country, we have put up a vast network of Regional/Branch offices strategically located in key cities of the Philippines.
Stronghold Insurance Company, Inc. takes pride of its accomplishment to where it is now by being a financially stable entity. Proof of this is the steady growth of its net worth over the years of its operations.
Stronghold Insurance’s Paid Up Capital as of December 31, 1980 was Php 4 million. This grew by leaps and bounds to about Php 700 million as of December 31, 2018 and is expected to increase to Php 1 billion by 2019.
In terms of training and development, we regularly send our Rank and File employees, Supervisors and Middle Managers to the various non-life insurance courses being offered by the Insurance Institute for Asia and the Pacific (IIAP) to enhance their technical skills while our officers are being sent regularly to various meetings, symposiums and conferences both here and abroad to further enrich their managerial skills and at the same time give them the opportunity to meet other executives in the insurance industry and other types of business. Our Company has been holding various sports activities annually as part of its intention of keeping the employees fit and healthy.
Our Company has been able to sustain the trust and confidence of our rated treaty reinsurers since we were able to maintain our big reinsurance facility which has helped us, our producers and intermediaries compete aggressively in the market especially with regard to large accounts. This has also facilitated faster decision-makings in accepting small to medium-sized types of risks.
We have been conducting regular meetings and round table discussions with our Regional and Branch Heads. This is to update them of the various issues and developments affecting the insurance industry for them to be on their toes to grab possible opportunities that may come their way which will help them improve their operations.
As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, our Office has been active in supporting charitable activities that will assist the marginalized and the less fortunate to cope up with the pressing basic needs of life.
With these initiatives, the Company will remain steadfast in its obligation of providing dependable risk coverages through prudent and sound business practice coupled with technical expertise as it approaches its Diamond year by being Stronger at 60 Years and Beyond.
