ACDECO, founded in 1966 in Angono, Rizal, was born out of the hope that change could be achieved through cooperativism. Driven by optimism, young church workers, led by Augusto Mier, organized the cooperative under the Knights of Columbus of Manila. The first loan was granted in 1966, and the organization faced numerous obstacles, including delinquency in 1972. Miranda, Sr.,
sought ways to rehabilitate ACDECO by promoting education from top to bottom. A massive campaign was held to invite people to join the Pre-Membership Seminar, and a new rostrum of economic and business-oriented people joined and stayed. ACDECO's ideology emphasized the importance of learning, entrepreneurship, and adhering to national cooperative principles. They taught members to fish, charge fair interest on services, and believe that a coop without religion is despotic. Today, ACDECO is in its fifty-seventh year of existence, with over a hundred million in assets, a membership of more than ten thousand with over a hundred million Pesos in share capital contribution. The organization offers various programs and services to its members, including savings deposits, share capital, loans, social services, and a Mountain of Eternal Peace. The Laboratory Coop, the Youth Program, is being organized to bring the next generation of cooperatives into the organization and perpetuate its values and practices.
