Forty years is more than a career. It's a lifetime of growth, change and commitment.
When Gethrude Lelai joined Westpac PNG four decades ago, banking looked very different. Transactions were recorded in handwritten ledgers, processes were manual, and the digital tools we rely on today were still years away.
Over the past 40 years, Gethrude has experienced every stage of that evolution firsthand - growing alongside the bank as both banking and Papua New Guinea continued to develop and change.
What has kept her motivated throughout the years is a genuine love for solving problems and making a difference. "When something isn't working, I like being part of the solution and seeing it fixed motivates me to keep going."
That mindset has seen her progress throughout her career and become a trusted leader within our International Service Centre, where she now serves as Manager.
While technology, systems and ways of working have transformed over the years, one thing has remained constant: Gethrude's commitment to learning, adapting and supporting those around her.
Today, she encourages the next generation to embrace that same mindset. "Stay curious, be open to learning, and lead with integrity."
Her story is a powerful reminder that a meaningful career isn't built overnight. It's built through years of learning, growing and showing up with purpose.
We're incredibly proud to celebrate Gethrude's remarkable 40-year journey.
Some relationships are built to last. And we're here for the long run.
