The single most effective way to get rich

Kathleen Elkins
Business Insider
June 17, 2015

Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to be an expert about personal finance to get rich.

You don't need to use fancy economic jargon or know this year's "hottest stock." You don't have to come from an affluent family, and you don't even have to earn a massive paycheck.

For most people, it all boils down to one thing: investing.

"On average, millionaires invest 20% of their household income each year. Their wealth isn't measured by the amount they make each year, but by how they've saved and invested over time," writes Ramit Sethi in his New York Times bestseller, "I Will Teach You To Be Rich."

"In other words, a project manager could earn $50,000 per year and be richer than a doctor earning $250,000 per year — if the project manager has a higher net worth by saving and investing more over time."

Sethi gives an example of the power of investing just $10 per week:

After five years (assuming an average 8% return), you would have $3,295, and after 10 years, you would have $8,136. And that comes from simply setting aside a little over a dollar a day.

Putting away $50 a week would result in $16,473 after five years and $40,678 after 10 years. Imagine how much money would accumulate if you set aside a bit more each week, and did that for several years.

The earlier you start, the better.

This chart from JP Morgan Asset Management, which shows the power of taking advantage of compound interest from an early age, explains why it's so important to get started now and invest consistently, even if you think you don't have enough money to make a difference:

(JP Morgan Asset Management)

You don't need to be rich to invest, yet so many of us fail to get started managing our money because we're intimidated or don't know where to start. Fear of losing money is also a common concern: "That's fair," writes Sethi, "Especially after market losses during the global financial crisis, but you need to take a long-term view. Despite wild rides in the stock market, with a long term perspective, the best thing you can do is start investing early."

Investing is not as complicated or daunting as we make it out to be. The simplest starting point is to invest in your employer's 401(k) plan; make sure to take full advantage of your company's 401(k) match if they offer one.

Next, consider contributing money towards a Roth IRA or traditional IRA, individual retirement accounts with different contribution limits and tax structures (which one you can use depends on your income). If you still have money left over and are hungry to continue investing, you can research low-cost index funds, which Warren Buffett recommends, and look into the online investment platforms known as "robo-advisers."

Proposed Business Venture
-Restaurant and Club House-

Introduction: Many of us have commented on the lack of a true above average West Indian restaurant serving typical West Indian dishes, however stylized. Desiring good presentation, good service and ambience. It occurred to me that we could attempt to break the mold and develop one ourselves, all those who believe in the concept of developing what we want instead enjoying what others do, can develop such a restaurant. We enjoy the cuisine of many of the other ethnic groups because we do not have our own comparable places that provide good West Indian cuisine. I believe if enough of us join to together we can accomplish more than we can individually, if collectively we put our limited resources to work for all of us, we all will stand to benefit in more ways than one, we could develop more pride in our west Indian heritage and leave a legacy for succeeding generations, both here and abroad that we can be proud to identify with. We would be able to point with pride what we have produced representing our west Indian culture, our west Indian cuisine, dishes common to most of our grandparents and great grandparents who migrated to Panama. We enjoy the cuisine of every other group; let us give them something they can enjoy from our culture, in style, in a classy fashion. This project is not just for those of West Indian heritage but to serve the general public but presented by us, owned by us, administered by us.

I understand, from what I have been told and have come to verify to some extent, many of us are still mourning past negative experiences. If we allow ourselves to be enslaved to our past experiences we will lose today opportunities. We have to develop personal pride and individual pride that denote our individual dignity and collective dignity. We are not better than any other group and certainly not less. With faith and confidence in our ability to collectively produce a worthwhile enterprise, we can move forward.

Mechanics: Raise the required capital. By offering shares to all who are willing to invest in such a venture, to all who capture the vision. At least 100 investors investing at least $5,000.00, some could invest more and earn more from the dividends within five years of operation. With faith and good will we can accomplish the objectives stated with profit, financial and other ways. We need to locate an appropriate site to start the venture. Identify the appropriate kitchen personnel, floor personnel, support staff and good administrators. Develop a very good marketing program and public relations strategies. Select an appropriate name that identifies the restaurant and its services. Partner with one or two of our outstanding west Indian chefs and young graduates of chef schools to develop the dishes and their presentation. Introduce new dishes periodically, and rotate the menu.

The White House, Washington
Hi everyone,
The Trans-Pacific Partnership isn't just President Obama's proposed trade deal -- it's mine, too. It's a trade deal that millions of other online small business owners in this country would be proud to add their name to. I want to tell you why:
Every time I step through the doors of one of our 4,000-square-foot warehouses in Boulder and Denver, Colorado -- every time I see the bikes and cycling parts that line those walls and take in the energetic buzz of our 30-member team -- I take a step back and reflect on a simple fact: I own a business. It’s a "pinch-me" moment –- every time.
I am a cyclist and the proud co-owner of The Pro's Closet, an online used-cycling store. And because of the Internet and the availability of e-commerce platforms like eBay, we've gone global. After all, when it’s not cycling season in the U.S., it’s peak season somewhere else in the world.
International customers aren't just good for business abroad; they’re great for my Colorado communities. Why? Because selling in more markets means I can hire more people here at home. In fact, more small businesses are using the Internet to grow their business by reaching new customers they couldn't reach before.
This is why trade is so important to me. If the success of American businesses in the global economy is important to you, say you’re an ambassador for a better trade deal that delivers a brighter future for all of us.
It may seem like a really remote and technical issue, but it actually has a real impact on how small businesses like mine do business. Currently more than 40% of our transactions cross U.S. borders. Unfortunately, most of our trade rules were written in a "pre-Internet" era, which means they are a nightmare to navigate for small online businesses.
Here’s an example: Right now, customs rules are so inconsistent and hard to follow that if we put a cycling part in the wrong packaging or mail it with the wrong label, it won’t make it to our customer in one country. The rules are different for each country, and are sometimes set up in a way that completely blocks out American business.
That is why it is so important that we secure the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a new kind of trade agreement that will ensure America writes the rules and levels the playing field for online businesses and American workers by:
Reducing and eliminating tariffs across the Asia-Pacific region
Streamlining customs procedures
Making the rules more transparent, consistent, and less costly
Helping keep the Internet open and free, enabling online businesses to operate without unnecessary infrastructure costs
Of course, as the President has said, not all of our past trade deals have lived up to their promise. Thankfully, this trade deal is on track to be different. In fact, the Trans-Pacific Partnership is shaping up to be the most progressive trade deal the world has ever seen. Here’s why:
The TPP protects workers
The TPP protects our environment
The TPP protects an open and free Internet
I based my business on the principle of sustainability -- buying something "used" that already exists is the greenest way to shop. The Trans-Pacific Partnership seeks to do the same thing on a global scale. And that’s important to me not just because it is good policy, but because it means my company will compete on a level playing field.
The ins and outs of trade can be a bit daunting and in the weeds, especially for businesses that have to navigate the global economy to compete. But the impact is felt worldwide -- from a rural village in Vietnam to the pocketbooks of American workers here at home.
This is a “pinch-me” moment for Americans across the country. We have to seize the opportunity now, before another country like China beats us to it. Say you’re on our team.
Think big, act small.
Thanks for listening,
- Nick

Thoughts to Consider for 2015…

If we would concentrate more on our blessings and less on our disappointments we would fair better. If we would only express more gratitude and less complains. If we would only think more on God’s grace, on His mercies, on His forgiveness and more on those less fortunate than us. If we would think less of self and more of others, how we can be of service to others in need of our service we would reap bountiful rewards of satisfaction realizing we are doing what pleases God our Father, we will be happy in full measure by being a worthy being, by being a loving being, a being in which our Father God will be pleased. Think on these things and have most joyful New Year.

La Iglesia de Dios
Del
Evangelio Integral
