Hace 182 años así lucía el volcán Cosigüina con sus 4000 msnm, antes de hacer su última erupcion en 1835. La erupción más violenta en la historia reciente de Nicaragua fue el 22 de enero de 1835, protagonizada por este volcán. Una gran parte del cráter explotó y volaron trozos, los cuales formaron islotes en el Golfo de Fonseca o bien conocido como los Farallones del Cosigüina. Las cenizas alcanzaron una distancia de hasta 1400 kilómetros, llegando hasta la Ciudad de México. Las cenizas podían bloquear la luz del sol en un radio de 150 kilómetros. Después de esta corta, pero brutal explosión, sólo pasaron unas cuantas otras erupciones hasta que el volcán se volviera inactivo en 1859. En 1938 se formó una laguna en el hoyo cratérico que quedó después de la erupción.

Te Imaginas la impresión de entrar por el golfo de Fonseca y admirar este coloso? Y sin lugar a duda fue uno de los puntos mas alto de Centroamerica.
