Staring at a fitting and not sure what it is? You're not alone. π Hereβs a simple 3-step guide to identifying hydraulic thread types like a pro.
Step 1: Measure the Diameter
Use a caliper to measure the male OD or female ID (in mm or inches).
Step 2: Determine the Thread Pitch
Use a thread pitch gauge. Is it coarse or fine? Measure in TPI or mm.
Step 3: Examine the Sealing Surface
This is the biggest clue! Does it seal on a flare (JIC), a cone (BSP), an O-ring (ORFS), or a taper (NPT/BSPT)?
Getting this right prevents cross-threading, leaks, and damaged components.
