The consumer confidence index lost 10 points during the last quarter of last year, according to the latest statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The decline was due to the fall in the sub indicators.
The value of the indicators, an important tool that measures the economic performance and public satisfaction with the current economic conditions, stood at 147 points; the lowest throughout the whole year.
While the absolute value of the indicator remained high, still the decline of the consumer expectation between the third and fourth quarters of 2014 by 12 points to hit 173 points, reflects a decline in optimism level about the future economic condition. Despite this, the ability of the consumer expectations to maintain its value reflects to a large extent optimism that the economic and living conditions will improve in the near future.
Two out of every 3 citizens (66 per cent) believe that they and their families financial conditions will improve this year.
