I am currently on hold to speak to a person regarding a debt resolution.
The bank - Kiwibank has taken so far over an hour to try to get through to a person who can assist.

Before getting a bank account, ensure you do some due diligence on the organisation that you are going to be dealing with.

If it takes over an hour to speak to a person regarding a simple matter, how hard will it be for you to ask for a reasonable response.

Starting the New Year with a bang.

I received a claim for outstanding balance today from the Baycorp owner Credit Corp that one of my clients owed almost $2500 on a debt.

The strange thing is that the debt was settled and paid in June last year.

This is where it becomes a bit of a nightmare.
The Creditor has no records of the outstanding debt
Baycorp seem to have have no records relating to the settlement

According to the company that the debt was owed to, they never received any payment from Baycorp.
Even more interesting, the insurance company that was owed stated that there was no debt because the claim was never followed through from their client..

Wow..
so there was no debt originally, outsourced to a collector that it seems hasn't kept records, and settled without any information about it, and still claimed to be outstanding.
This is the biggest circus this year.

Oh and when I requested information for their internal disputes, they gave me a sales e-mail (there is no dispute information on their website).

My apologies to 'the good creditors'...

As I am processing the end of month payments to creditors, I have been hampered by a small number of creditors using the regurgitated lies of ages past - we cannot provide you a balance as you dont have authority on the account, or that is not handled by my department, or that person does not have a telephone, et al.

For those 'good organizations' that can respond to a balance request 'without delay' you are the true heroes in this unethical mire that we all tread water in.

Kiwidebt Limited - Proudly not funded by Govt since 2008.

What this means is that Kiwidebt do not have to beg the government for subsidies or rely on finance companies themselves to operate.
We do not take funds off hard working taxpayers to fund the assistance provided to people in debt.

With the treat of recession looming, it is disappointing to say that Google still does not allow Kiwidebt to Advertise to people who are suffering debt problems in New Zealand.

After trying for many hours to arrange for an overpayment to be returned from a creditor (finance company) Kiwidebt has submitted the first Claim through the New Zealand Justice system ever.

It is a sad representation of the creditors that believe that any person who remits them funds does not have the right to arrange for funds to be returned.
It is a testament to the New Zealand Justice system that we have a way to ensure organisations like this adhere to the law.

The most stupid part of this is that the original overpayment was under $100.00 however including the costs the claim is $1200.00

The arrogant answer of the creditor - it was a training issue.... yeah right.....

Kiwidebt have today been following up requests for balances from creditors, which have been requested by e-mail in 4 hours I have managed to get 6 balances.

One balance from a creditor took over 40 minutes.

As I write this e-mail I have been on the telephone with an Australian owned debt collection company for over 60 minutes, and have been transferred to 6 agents within the same organization.

for the client that I am wanting to confirm balances, there are 8 separate debts that I need to confirm with 8 different creditors, and If they each take 30 minutes that is another 8 hours just to get balances that should take no more than 2 minutes.

The level of incompetence in financial institutions is astounding.

A complaint to the privacy Commissioner today for the refusal to provide information relating to a clients accounts.

The trading bank concerned is doing less to assist my client than the payday lenders did when they were around.

I guess that Lender could learn a lot from the payday lenders that worked to ensure that the anguish that the debtor was suffering was not dragged out un-necessarily.

It would still seem that some banks still believe that the best way to help an individual is to stretch out the term so the debtor is paying more over a longer period of time...
This is why NZ will never escape the debt crisis.

Another Complaint to the commerce commission today relating to A major bank that has repeatedly contacted a debtor after a notice of harassment was issued in February.

The banks excuse for harassment - it was an automated notification.

Next time you get pulled over by the police for speeding, see how 'it was in cruise control' works for you.

Two standards, one for consumers and one for finance companies.
And this just after the anti bullying day exactly one week ago!

Fairness and ethics seem to still have no place in finance.
