Today our Kaiwhakahaere, Linda Clay, presented at Dreaming Big at Parliament, an event hosted by On Being Bold ♀️

Dreaming Big is designed to inspire and encourage kōhine with potential to be brave and bold in seeking opportunities, taking on challenges, and backing themselves to achieve their goals.

Linda presented alongside Anna Liumaihetau Darling (General Manager – People Experience at Sharesies ), sharing insights on putting your best foot forward in interviews, navigating imposter syndrome, and the importance of not leaving your culture at the door. Their message was simple but powerful — be yourself, because you are the only you.

R E N 🦎 (pictured) and Ayesha Leti-I'iga also shared their experiences as members of the Gillies Group Hurricanes Poua . At MWDI, we’re proud to back wāhine in sport and celebrate those paving the way for future generations.

A special mihi to the wāhine behind On Being Bold — Dame Therese Walsh, Dame Joan Withers, Cathy Quinn, Dame Paula Rebstock, Alison Gerry, Jolie Hodson, Silvana Schenone, Royal Reed and Frances Valintine. Through their collective vision and leadership, they have created a platform that shares the real stories behind successful careers, reminding us that the path to success is rarely a straight line.

This week, our Kaiwhakahaere, Linda Clay, attended Ministry of Awesome Electrify Aotearoa, a kaupapa bringing together wāhine founders, innovators, and leaders from across Aotearoa.

While there, Linda heard about two exciting funding opportunities that may be of interest to our wāhine:

Electrify Aotearoa Seed Investment – offering up to $100,000 through a SAFE note for women and non-binary founded tech businesses. Applications close 30 June 2026. Visit Foggy Valley for more information.

Kiwibank StartUp+ – a funding and support programme designed for innovative, early-stage businesses. Eligible startups can access up to $150,000 in milestone-based funding, along with specialist guidance, banking support, and reduced early-stage business costs. Visit Kiwibank for more information.

Events like Electrify Aotearoa are a great reminder of the opportunities available to help wāhine entrepreneurs access capital, build connections, and grow their businesses.

If you’re a wāhine founder or business owner looking to take your next step, these opportunities could be worth exploring.

We’ve been lucky to have a busy tari today, with another special visit to MWDI.

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Toia Chase and Sara Vaha-akolo Ngaika, wāhine Māori counsellors from the New Zealand Association of Counsellors / Te Rōpū Kaiwhiriwhiri o Aotearoa.

They visited us to learn more about the programmes and services we provide to support wāhine Māori who are starting a business or growing an existing pakihi. We appreciated the opportunity to share our kaupapa and discuss ways we can continue to support wāhine to achieve their aspirations.

For more information about our programmes and services visit MWDI.co.nz

Today we had the privilege of meeting with delegates from the Kiribati Parliament Select Committee on Cottage Industries Development.

The purpose of the visit was to exchange learning and insights, with the Committee interested to learn more about the work MWDI does to support the development of whānau-led small businesses and wāhine Māori entrepreneurs.

We shared an overview of MWDI, our kaupapa, history, values, programmes, services, and the impact of our mahi.

Ngā mihi to Hon Dennis Waysang K*m Kee, Committee Chairman (MP for Nonouti Island); Hon Ruta Babo Nemta, Committee Vice Chair (MP for Maiana Island and Deputy Speaker of Parliament); Hon Tinian Reiher (MP for Butaritari Island and former Minister of Fisheries); Hon Matanga Aran (MP for Tabuaeran/Fanning Island); Hon Tibanga Taratai (MP for Banaba Island); and Betarim Rimon, Committee Secretary, for joining us and contributing to these valuable conversations.

We always appreciate opportunities to connect, share experiences, and learn from others working to strengthen indigenous economic development and community wellbeing.
