The Reserve Bank has moved again - the OCR is up 25 basis points to 2.75%. 📈

So what does that actually mean if you've got a home loan? In short: the cost of borrowing has nudged up, and the RBNZ has signalled there could be more to come as it works to bring inflation (now sitting at 4.1%) back down toward 2%.

If your fixed rate is coming up for renewal - or you're just not sure how your mortgage stacks up right now - it's a good time to take a look at where things sit.

📈 OCR's up. Here's the deal

The Reserve Bank just bumped the Official Cash Rate to 2.50% - a 25 basis point rise.

Why? It comes back to the recent conflict in the Middle East. Oil prices spiked, inflation climbed to 3.9%, and the RBNZ is nudging rates up to keep it from sticking around. Good news: with the Strait of Hormuz reopening and oil prices easing, they reckon inflation should drift back toward 2% over the next year.

What does it mean for your mortgage? It's a mixed bag. Short-term rates have been creeping up, but longer-term rates have actually come down a touch - so it's worth knowing where you sit before your next refix.

More rate rises could be on the cards, but even the RBNZ admits the timing's anyone's guess. 🤷

📢 OCR Update: The Reserve Bank holds at 2.25%

The Reserve Bank has held the OCR at 2.25% - but rate rises are signalledfor later this year.

The Middle East conflict is pushing up fuel and energy prices, squeezing household budgets and business margins. Inflation is expected to peak at 4.3% by September before easing back toward the 2% target.

Your mortgage rate isn't moving just yet, but with hikes on the horizon, now's a good time to make sure your finances are set up well.

💡 It's also worth checking whether your insurance still fits your situation - income protection and mortgage protection are worth a look while rates are still relatively low.

📢 OCR Update - April 2026

The Reserve Bank has held the Official Cash Rate at 2.25% today.

While rates remain unchanged, rising global tensions - particularly in the Middle East - are expected to:
• Push inflation higher in the short term
• Slow economic growth
• Keep financial markets uncertain

What does this mean for you?
👉 Interest rates could still move in the future
👉 Cost of living pressures may increase
👉 It’s a good time to review your financial position

We’re keeping a close eye on what happens next - because if inflation sticks around, rate changes could follow.

📉 OCR stays at 2.25% - what it means for your mortgage

The Reserve Bank has kept the Official Cash Rate on hold, with inflation expected to keep easing this year.

What’s happening:
• Inflation is still slightly high but falling
• The economy is recovering slowly
• House prices remain soft
• Mortgage rates have dropped, but big falls are unlikely from here

What this means for you:
✔ Borrowing costs should stay relatively stable
✔ Interest rates aren’t expected to spike soon
✔ Good time to review your loan or refix options
✔ Buyers may still have opportunity while prices remain steady

If the recovery continues and inflation settles near 2%, rates may gradually normalise over time.

👉 Thinking about buying, refixing, or restructuring your mortgage? Let’s talk.
