All eligible first home purchasers will be able to withdraw more.
From April 1, legislation is being changed to enable larger KiwiSaver First Home Withdrawals by including the member’s tax credit in the withdrawal (meaning first home buyers will now be able to take out all of their KiwiSaver savings except the $1,000 kick-start).
If eligible, the Government can assist with more money than before.
The KiwiSaver HomeStart grant will be introduced on 1 April, to replace the KiwiSaver First Home deposit subsidy.
Like the KiwiSaver first home subsidy, the KiwiSaver HomeStart grant provides eligible first home buyers with a grant of up to $5,000 for individuals and up to $10,000 for couples to put towards a deposit for an existing home.
For those looking to purchase or build a brand new home (including purchasing land to build on), the new KiwiSaver HomeStart grant provides eligible first home buyers with a grant of up to $10,000 for individuals and up to $20,000 for couples.
The housing price limits are being increased to;
• $550,000 in Auckland,
• $450,000 in Hamilton City, Tauranga City, Western Bay of Plenty, Kapiti Coast, Porirua City, Upper Hutt, Hutt City, Wellington City, Nelson City, Tasman, Waimakariri, Christchurch City, Selwyn District, Queenstown Lakes.
• $350,000 for the rest of the country.
Income limits of $80,000 per person and $120,000 per couple remain unchanged. Note there are no income or house price limits for the withdrawal component.
