Our final Network Fishing Charter for 2025 🎣 🎣 🎣

What a way to start the day...........a surprise breakfast provided by Panapa Fishing Charters! Thank you whanau 🙏

From the pleasantly calm inner harbour waters, we steamed out past Rangitoto and Tiritiri Matangi Islands to the hollowed fish grounds of the Hauraki Gulf.

Unfortuantely, it wasn't so calm out in the deep. Let’s just say, the condtions required a blend of strong legs, steady cores, and plenty of creative problem-solving to stay balanced, keep our composure, and reel in the fish. Most of the team handled it with poise and finesse…......whilst some not so much 🥴 The BBQ lunch was a welcome sight!

The longest snapper competition (with the added bonus of a $200 Panapa Charters Gift Voucher) proved to be a tough competition, once again. Alan got the show going early on with a 640mm snapper and after a few hours, Karalee quietly swooped in and took the lead with a massive 680mm snapper. Everyone had a good nudge at taking the top prize including another impressive 640mm caught by Heta. The Longest Snapper Champion was our Wahine Toa - Karalee.

Thanks to all that were able to join us!
Heta Hudson (Kakano Advisory), Warwick Slow (Kiwi Advisers Network), Ranz Fruean - Haven Financial Adviser, Stefan Vujcich (Line Capital), Tony Rutherford (Copper Fox), Stephen Robertson (My Money), Quincy Tangiau (Stronghold Group), Karalee Tangiau (Stronghold Group), James Gray (Liberty Life NZ), Suzanna Rangi (Talent Leadership Consultants aka TLC), Alan Vessey (Barfoot Thompson Ellerslie), Angela Fahey (Fahey Properties), Adrian Hunt

Thanks again to Vanessa Haslam, Luke Nicholas and Epic Beer / Epic Taproom for providing the liquid refreshments.

Once again thanks Panapa Sr and Jr of Panapa Fishing Charters Limited (Z Pier, Westhaven) for looking after us!

Our next Network Charter will be in February 2026. Keep your eyes open for my email regarding this or please let me know if you'd like to join us.

Last Friday delivered another absolutely stunning day out on the Hauraki Gulf for our latest Network Fishing Charter.

The day started with a very clear, still morning and it just got better as the day went on. Whilst Panapa Sr and Panapa Jr steamed out to the calm, flat glistening waters of the Hauraki Gulf between The Noises and Tiritiri Matangi Island, everyone enjoyed some time to network and get to know each other, and of course to prepare to catch some fish and take home the glory of landing the Longest Snapper!

Alas, someone forgot to tell the fish that we were coming to invite them to a BBQ later. It proved to be a hard day at the office with snapper coming on board sporadically. This forced us into a game of cat and mouse, with the skipper moving a number of times including going way out deep (50 metres) to find our target for the day. Our fishing luck seemed to evade us throughout the day, so the skip decided to head back into swallower waters near the Rangitoto Lighthouse.

Though our luck didn’t improve much, we were treated to the spectacular sight of a number of pods of dolphins swimming in the area. Panapa Jr was able to play the boat to encourage the dolphins to join us as we steamed along and we got to see many of them swimming behind us in the boat’s wake and jumping out of the water beside the boat. Wow, what an unbelievable bonus for everyone!

The longest snapper competition proved to be a bit slow, however Tavita Tonumaivao took the lead earlier on with a 535mm snapper. After many hours of ribbing and quiet confidence from the leader, Suzanna Rangi decided to pull a big(ger) Red out of the bag using her last bait of the day and snatched the competition with a 575mm snapper…...….her timing was impeccable with only 5 minutes left before we were due to head home.

Thanks to all that were able to join us!

Tony Rutherford (Copper Fox), Greg Wertheim (Flexicommercial), Quincy Tangiau (Stronghold Group), Tavita Tonumaivao (Total Passive Fire Solutions), Kevin Nepia (Total Door Solutions), Suzanna Rangi (TLC - Talent Leadership Consultants), Isaac Etimani (First Foundation), Melissa Wallace (WE Accounting), Mark Hayward (NZHL), Todd Allan (SHARE Insurances), Juinor Maugatai (Pinnacle Scaffolds and The Rusty Morris Bar & Cafe), Connor Whitley Su'a (Cluster South Fitness), Tavita (MOTAT) and Don Allan.

Thanks again to Luke Nicholas and Epic Beer for providing the liquid refreshments.

Once again thanks Panapa Sr and Jr of Panapa Fishing Charters Limited (Z Pier, Westhaven) for looking after us!

Though I haven't organised our next Network Charter yet, there is some interest in doing another one before the Christmas/New Year break. With November already busy for me, I may possibly do one in early December, so keep your eyes open for my email regarding this. Alternatively, please let me know if you'd like to join us.

With Spring upon us, our first Network Fishing Charter in 4 months launched from Westhaven Z Pier last Friday.

After setting off from the smooth waters of Westhaven, we were soon amongst a bit of swirl after rounding North Head and heading out past The Noises. With the wind opposing the tide, the swell grew and the anticipation and excitement started to build as we contiued on our merry way. Before we knew it, we had our lines in the water looking for the bounty.

With the rolling swell, a couple of short bursts of sky precipitation and our target species challenging our skills (forcing us to move a few times), everyone focused on the task of catching some fish with a sprinkle of banter and laughs. At times it was hard, but we got a decent catch of snapper, kahawai and gunard ensuring everyone went home with a good feed of fresh fish.

Sadly, the longest snapper competition became a one-horse race with Alan Vessey getting out of the gate early on and never relinguishing the lead. A couple of past celebrated winners really tried to challenge, but were nowhere to be seen 🤷‍♀️ In the end, the prize pool was only for Alan, as he took out 1st (515mm) and 2nd (490mm) spots. Well done Al!!

Thanks to all that were able to join us!
Mark Croker and Navi Singh Aujla (WE Accounting), Quincy Tangiau, Karalee Tangiau and SHannon (Stronghold Group), Tavita Tonimaivao (Total Passive Fire Solutions), Matthew McGougan (PWC Tax Pooling Solutions), Simon Jonas (NZ Home Loans), Angela Fahey (Fahey Property Management), Alan Vessey (Barfoot & Thompson), Darryl Reid and Kim Reid (SHARE NZ) and James Corbett (Bayer)

Thanks to Luke Nicholas and Epic Beer for keeping us fuelled.

Once again thanks Panapa Sr, Kayla Paniora and Panapa Jr of Panapa Fishing Charters (Z Pier, Westhaven) for looking after us!

14/05/2025

The A Team of Panapa Fishing Charters took us out on the Hauraki Gulf last Thursday for our last Network Fishing Charter before winter sets in.

With the Outer Gulf not delivering recently, Panapa Sr decided to stay in close around Motuihe, Motutapu and Waiheke Islands to fish in shallower waters.

After a short trip to the fishing grounds, we got our fishing rods working and although he said he was an amateur, before long John Maybury set a cracking pace.........even the hardy and more experienced fisho's like Kevin and John Akurangi (aka Axe) found it hard to keep up with! The early pressure to perform was there for everyone to see. The elusiveness of the Big Reds made their challenge harder, however through true grit, persistence and kiwi ingenuity, Kev and Axe were finally able to met John's challenge head-on. Great harmonies supported by Caroline Hollick (Choc), Dave Atkins and John M

The challenge of landing our target species remained throughout the day, which forced us to move numerous times to find the spot(s) that would deliver. Fortunately, though it was a hard day, everyone dug in and we were able to almost catch our limit of fish, ensuring everyone went home with more than a few meals of snapper.

As always, the longest snapper competition was a hotly fought battle with 8-9 snapper vying for the prize pool. In the end after several double checks of measurements, Choc won by a mere 3mm with a girthy 485mm snapper……....not sure how she did it, as I swear she only had a rod in her hand for no more than 25% of the time!!

Thanks to all that were able to join us!
John Maybury, Karl Martin(Growth Matters - Business Growth & Trades Coach, Caroline Hollick aka Choc (Custom Fleet), Dave Atkins (SCG), Kevin Nepia (Total Door Solutions), Tavita Tonimaivao (Total Passive Fire Solutions), John Akurangi aka Axe (John Akurangi Consulting Services), Matt McGougan (PwC), Aidan Hellyer (SHARE), Stephen Moyle (Nine Pin Projects), Mark Summers (Petware Ltd) and Holly Hunt

Thanks again to Luke Nicholas and Epic Taproom for keeping us fuelled.

Once again thanks Panapa Sr, Kayla and Panapa Jr of Panapa Fishing Charters Limited, (Z Pier, Westhaven) for looking after us!

Our next Network Charter will be in Spring - late September or early October. Keep your eyes open for my email or please let me know if you'd like to join us on the next network charter.

After our Network Fishing Charter was postponed due to high winds and large swells in early November, we were able to enjoy a great day out on the Hauraki Gulf last week.

The early morning greeted us with a calm, still morning with scattered clouds and a sun that was beginning to break through to deliver a glorious day!

With the long trip out to our fishing grounds on the northern side of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, we spent the time networking and getting to know each other. After all of the mixing and mingling and as anticipated, we were all ready to enjoy some fishing when we arrived at Spot X and to land the longest snapper to win the fishing competition and bragging rights!

Spot X initialled provided the bounty that we were looking for, however I unfortunately didn’t get the memo, as I struggled to land any legal sized fish. I was actually contemplating on asking the skipper to take me back to the marina, as I felt that I wasn't delivering to my capabilities.........however patience and perseverance got me through the day.

After a couple of hours, the bite went quiet in this spot, so Panapa decided to move to the next Spot X. Fortunately, I got the memo this time and felt like I was contributing to the team again, as I started catching some decent sized snapper. With newfound confidence and a hot spot, the fish really dialled in and were coming on board on a regular basis.

This led to a highly contested longest snapper competition, which started with Alan catching a 500mm fish, followed by Damian’s 510mm, Max’s 530mm before Darin stole the winnings when he landed a 550mm snapper about 30 minutes before we pulled the anchor. Several 490mm snapper were caught throughout the day as well.

Another great day of networking, laughs and great banter!!

Thanks to everyone that were able to join us! It was great to have 11 first-timers on this charter!!
Wyndi Tagi (WE Mana), Darin Morris (North Harbour Ford), Mark Hayward and Simon Jonas (NZHL), Steve Misa (Oyonnx), Elvira Abdrazakova (Barfoot & Thompson Royal Oak), Nurzhan Tukeyev, Max Semmons-Russell and Richard Russell (KPA Plumbing & Green Light Escrow), Damian Nettmann and Mia Gao (Gallagher), Matthew McGougan (PwC), Alan Vessey and Yolandi Burmeister - Hasson (Barfoot & Thompson Ellerslie).

Thanks again Epic Beer for providing the refreshments to enjoy throughout the day.

Again thanks to Panapa Sr and Panapa Jr of Panapa Fishing Charters Limited (Z Pier, Westhaven) for looking after us and putting us on the fish!

With this charter being the last one for 2024, I have booked our next Network Fishing Charter for 20 February 2025. This charter is already 1/3 full, so if you'd like to join us, please let me know as soon as possible. First timers are more than welcome!

A great day out on the Hauraki Gulf last week with Panapa Fishing Charters Limited for another Network Fishing Charter.

We were greeted with a clear, still morning and the anticipation was high, as the original charter was postponed from September, due to high winds and choppy seas.

With the skipper deciding to head towards Tiritiri Matangi Island, everyone took the time to network and get to know each other. Once we arrived in the fishing grounds, we were all ready to enjoy the day and to go into battle to win the longest snapper competition.

Our first spot didn’t fire, so we moved to Spot X and it delivered with snapper continually coming on board throughout the day. Around lunchtime, we were lucky to have a pod of dolphins swim and play around us for a while. I didn’t get any photos or video of them, however I know others did. All in all, a great day with lots of encouragement, banter and laughs!!

With the longest snapper competition, though I nearly stole the show with a 525mm specimen, Alan caught a very healthy 535mm snapper earlier on in the day and was able to hang on for the win.

Thanks to all that were able to join us!
Caleb Male (Kenai Ltd), Karalee Tangiau (Stronghold Group), Quincy Tangiau (Stronghold Group), Ula Lopati (Fulton Hogan), Todd Allan (Share Insurances), Mike Scott (Scott Base Nursery), Kate Ward (Share Insurances), Kristin Syms (Willowgrove Consulting) , Alan Vessey (Barfoot & Thompson Ellerslie), Kyle Esterhuizen (Ester Electrical), Victor Smith (AA Scaffolding) and Alex Russell (Scotpac)

Thanks again to Epic Beer and the Epic Taproom for providing the refreshments to enjoy throughout the day.

Again thanks to Panapa Sr and Panapa Jr of Panapa Fishing Charters (Z Pier, Westhaven) for looking after us and putting us on the fish!

With our next Network Fishing Charter in November being full and the year fast coming to a close, I have pencilled in our next charter for 20 February 2025. Please let me know if you'd like to join us on this network charter.
