Changes to donation tax credits announced last week highlight the value of structure and planning for large donors and charities alike.

Craigs’ Director, Philanthropy and Intergenerational Wealth Arron Perriam poses the question, will giving behaviours change, with donors spreading contributions across multiple years and structuring giving to align with the new $100,000 annual donation tax credit cap?

Or do giving decisions rely more heavily on personal values, impact outcomes, and relationships with charitable organisations?

In May, the annual Auckland Writers Festival took place with over 200 public events gathering over 220 of the world’s best writers and thinkers.

We have been long time supporters of the Auckland Writers Festival, and proudly sponsored the sold out major opening Gala Night event where the audience heard from eight stellar writers speak to a moment in their life or work where their compass was reset – by choice or by chance; hard-won or by happenstance; early in life or in its later acts – that set them on a course truer to themselves.

Thank you to Witi Ihimaera, Tāme Iti, Dr Lucy Hone, Tayari Jones, Elizabeth Knox, RF Kuang, Yann Martel and Michael Pedersen for opening your hearts so completely to the audience.

We are proud to support our flourishing creative communities, so we partner with a variety of arts events and organisations to bring life and colour to the regions of New Zealand.

It has been a pleasure to work with 45 South to distribute our Workplace Giving funds on behalf of our Queenstown team.

Thanks to their support, our Queenstown Workplace Giving donations have been distributed to wonderful charities Kiwi Christmas Books and KiwiHarvest.

Kiwi Christmas Books gifts brand new books to families whose children would otherwise go without at Christmas time. KiwiHarvest redistributes excess food to those in need and reduces the harmful impact of food waste on our environment.

In our latest Workplace Giving distribution, Craigs and its employees donated $200,000 to charities across New Zealand.

Through Craigs’ Workplace Giving, our people can elect to donate a portion of their monthly pay, and Craigs matches contributions up to $500 per employee annually. Since Workplace Giving began in 2020, total donations have exceeded $1 million.

Last week we sponsored the Beef + Lamb New Zealand ‘Out the gate’ conference at Te Pae in Christchurch.

The event brought together hundreds of sheep and beef farmers and rural professionals from all over NZ, along with agri-tech and agri-science businesses at the forefront of innovation supporting the primary sector.

Ray Smith from MPI and Simon Quilty from Global AgriTrends among many others provided the latest insights and trends from an NZ and global perspective.

We were pleased to be able to contribute to the programme through our session on growing wealth off the farm led by Michelle Perkins and Christchurch adviser Phill Kinney and we enjoyed the questions during and after the session.

The Beef + Lamb awards evening celebrated this years’ winners and finalists all driving growth and innovation across the sector.

Congratulations to you all. Well done Beef + Lamb on an excellent conference and we look forward to connecting at other events in the future.

What if inflation is driven by what we believe, not just what happens?

We’ve seen a lot of economic releases over the last several weeks, but the most important of all were the two that covered inflation expectations.

Expectations matter because they influence behaviour, and behaviour drives outcomes. That’s especially so when it comes to inflation.

Craigs recently commissioned new research exploring New Zealanders’ investing behaviours, confidence levels, trust in investment information sources, and attitudes toward investing across different age groups, genders, and household types.

The findings reveal that while more Kiwis are engaging with investing, confidence gaps still exist - particularly for women, which can impact participation and long-term portfolio growth.
