🚨 OCR UPDATE – 2.75% 🚨

Well… the OCR has gone UP 0.25% today, taking it to 2.75%.

So, what’s going on? 👇

📈 Inflation is sitting at 4.1% — well above the Reserve Bank’s 1–3% target. A big chunk of that jump is being driven by higher fuel prices.

🏦 The Reserve Bank is lifting the OCR to put the brakes on inflation. And they’ve indicated there could be more increases to come if needed.

💸 What does this mean for mortgage rates?

The OCR influences the rates banks charge, but mortgage rates don’t move one-for-one with the OCR. Fixed rates are also influenced by wholesale funding costs and what the market expects to happen next.

So while we’ve already seen some mortgage rates move up, today’s OCR increase doesn’t automatically mean your fixed rate is about to jump by 0.25% - Banks have already priced this change into rates in the lead up to the review.

🌤️ And there is a little light at the end of the tunnel…

The Reserve Bank expects inflation to ease back towards the 2% target during 2027. If inflation continues to come under control, the pressure for further OCR increases should ease too — which could bring more stability to mortgage rates and, eventually, create room for rates to come back down.

But… we’re not there yet! 😅

For now, if your fixed rate is coming up, don’t panic and don’t just pick a rate based on what you saw in the headlines today.

The right refix strategy is about looking at the bigger picture — not just chasing the lowest rate.

It's so much easier than you think!

🌸 How amazing are these beautiful flowers? 🌸

Tui was very lucky to receive these from some grateful clients after helping them with not only buying a section to build their dream home on, but also selling their existing home!

Here’s the cool part 👇

Tui had first-home buyers who were pre-approved and struggling to secure a property, while at the same time she was working with a lovely couple who were preparing to sell their home in the exact area the buyers were searching in.

She simply connected the two parties — no obligation, no pressure — and less than 3 weeks later:
