Looking out this evening on this little corner of the vast Pacific Ocean I saw the setting sun lighting up the sails of just one little sailboat on all that open water. I rushed to get my camera but the magic was too fleeting. The sun had gone leaving the boat almost invisible in that vast space.

My Dolphin Melody give-away is now closed. I was amazed and thrilled to see that 1,262 readers entered the giveaway. Thank-you to all of you including those who did not win. I appreciate you just as much.
My hope, for those 100 of you who won, is firstly that they enjoy the story but also that Dolphin Melody transports them to Ocean Mind and the cultures of the sea, where they can live for a while among the dolphins and discover the oceans from their point of view. It's easy for me, living as I do so close to the sea but the oceans matter to the whole planet and we all need to understand them better, even if we live far inland.
This story is my attempt to bring the oceans alive for everyone, in the hope we will all be more likely to want to protect them.
For this reason I'll be grateful for any readers who won copies and enjoyed the story, to recommend Melody to others in any way they can. I live and write for one purpose - to protect my friends in the sea and I hope you are moved enough by the story to want to help me in this by spreading the word about Melody.
You might also wish to read my previous book "Ripple" which has similar objectives.

Melody just got her second 5-star rating, from a person in Germany. No kiwis yet, so it shows it's not just relatives and people who know me well. Thanks so much to my reader in Germany - the only northern hemisphere country I've ever visited.πŸ₯°

FIRST MELODY REVIEW COMES IN😊
So happy to read the first Melody review, posted by a reader in Australian on the Amazon Australia site. Not the .com Amazon. It was a five-star as follows:
"BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL
This book is an imaginative and powerful work. It has such heartwarming and joyous moments that it had me crying tears of joy on several occasions. Well worth a read and will say with you for a long time."

People in Aotearoa, have asked if they'll get here in time for Christmas. THEY WILL if you order now. We proved it. The copy in the photo was ordered (from Australian Amazon) only a week ago and its here now. This was much quicker than they told us when we ordered, so plenty of time to get copies to hand out for Christmas presents as long as you don't wait until the Christmas mail rush.

SHOW THE WORLD WHY WE SHOULD LOVE OUR OCEANS
My latest novel "Dolphin Melody" is available now, set among the islands, waters and bays, of the beautiful bay of Islands.
Melody is a story of grief, love, hope, healing and ultimately - communication.
Narrated by Hinemoana, Maori goddess of the sea. This is your chance to dive deep into the minds of dolphins.
I'll put a link to the purchase page in the comments below.
Feel free to forward and share as you wish.
Available in print or e-book worldwide on all Amazon stores.

Today I uploaded the second "final" proof of the paperback version of Dolphin Melody to Amazon. Let's hope this one really is final.
The cover was the hardest bit to get right and still not sure it will be okay. I was so determined to design my own cover (possibly a mistake) but if it doesn't work it's not for want of effort expended on it.
Here's some new text I added to the latest version. It's a vocab list at the front of the book. There are no graphics in the book. This is just me playing with photoshop again.

Over the years, many people have sent me dolphin-themed gifts from all over the world after reading my first novel Ripple, but I doubt any of those gifts had so much time invested in their creation as this one I received recently from Deryn Tucker. It is like a tapestry but instead of stitches, a gazillion tiny dots were glued on, one by one to create the image. It must have taken forever. It reminds me of the scene in Ripple, when the junior astronomy team were having difficulties on Jupiter's moon Io.

Kayak went pretty much as planned. Paddled from Te Uenga home to Jacks Bay with weather exactly as forecast.

FIRST SPRING PADDLE COMING UP WE HOPE
Jeff's son Paul and his wife Deryn are staying with us for few days. Paul and I plan to take my double kayak, Cosmo, out tomorrow, if the current weather forecast holds. We plan to launch at Te Uenga and paddle home to Manawaora. Should be a following wind as far as Whangaiwahine Point and then a head wind up Manawaora, with the sea growing calmer the closer we get to home, as the fetch reduces.
I'm looking forward to having a powerhouse like Paul in the boat to push Cosmo along. Charging up the VHF and the GoPro now. I'll also be carrying a new locator beacon. The old one had served its allotted lifespan without ever being called upon to save me. I plan for this new one to do the same.
This is Cosmo. He gets fewer workouts than Echo so he's quite excited.

It's weird to be reading an actual hard-copy paperback book, written by me. I'm just so accustomed to it being on a screen. It didn't happen with my first book because I made the e-book long before the print book.
But reading a proof copy is essential. I straightaway saw issues needing fixing regarding book design (mostly fixed now) and am now reading right through for a final check of text.
The cover was way too dark in colour and not contrasty enough. There were details that were completely lost that looked fine on screen. Also fixed now I hope.
The annoying thing about reading a book you wrote yourself is you know how it ends. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜†πŸ€£ As I said. Weird.
But here's a photo of page 1:
