Rex Duckett started in insurance after being made redundant as a printer, with four hungry children at home and a need to build something new. What began from tough circumstances has grown into decades of helping people sort out cover for their homes, cars, businesses and personal protection. In the interview, Rex talks less about flashy extras and more about getting the basics right, listening properly, and putting together cover that suits the client rather than overselling them.
That practical approach comes through in the way the business works. Rex describes helping people from all walks of life, always aiming to give peace of mind. One story that stood out was a client whose income protection became vital after a serious car accident, helping keep the mortgage paid and the household afloat during a long recovery. He also points to the value of seeing clients face-to-face, especially in a local town where people want advice from someone they know rather than feeling like a number in a call centre.
After more than three decades, the goal is still community-based service: being there for locals in Ōtaki, across the coast, and at claim time when support matters most.
