Job Description:
We are seeking 16 independent Officers/Governance Board Members to join our organisation, preferably one from every region of New Zealand. The role is voluntary, asking you to give back to your local community approximately 3-5 hours per month.
Responsibilities Include:
- Developing our policies
- Overseeing our procedures
- Planning and forecasting the organisation's activities
- Evaluating the services that Small Business Mentoring provides to our local communities
- Ensuring we comply with all legal and ethical standards as a not-for-profit charity in New Zealand
- Employ, recruit, or select volunteers and train staff for business and financial mentoring work
Entity Structure:
Small Business Mentoring Limited is a New Zealand registered company with one Director and one Shareholder. We are currently applying for charitable status in New Zealand before officially launching our initiative. If your application is successful, you will be appointed to the board and registered on the Charities Services website, where this information is publicly accessible.
New board members are expected to meet "at this stage" twice a year, in addition to any sub-committee work on special tasks or other meetings as deemed necessary by the Board.
Preferably, we are looking for one board member from each of our sixteen regions of New Zealand who has local community knowledge and experience in the not-for-profit sector.
Whether you live in Cape Reinga, down in Bluff or in between, we do not mind, as we service clients all around the Motu. You will not only bring community knowledge and experience from the not-for-profit sector, but also bring a wide range of relevant Business and Financial knowledge and skills. The organisation will employ paid staff members next year once the charity is established and the funding applied for becomes available.

Our mission is to provide personalised, one-on-one business and financial mentoring programs, both in-person and online, to empower individuals and families throughout Aotearoa. We aim to help our clients set actionable goals, overcome challenges, and achieve measurable growth in their personal and professional lives.
Objectives:
- Empower individuals and families throughout Aotearoa by offering personalised, one-on-one business and financial mentoring programs that guide them toward actionable goals and measurable growth.
- Promote, advocate, and communicate with business and financial mentoring services, local community organisations, and commercial entities in all aspects of mentoring.
- Recruit, select, employ, and train staff for business and financial mentoring roles.
- Engage with local authorities, government agencies, and members of parliament.
- Conduct promotional and educational activities to raise public awareness of the importance of business and budgeting as a means of managing financial resources.

Independent officers in Aotearoa, New Zealand have a legal duty to act in the best interests of their charity when making decisions as a governance board member, as outlined in the Charities Act 2005.
