Yesterday we announced we're the South Island's top mortgage broker.

Today the trophies from our Mike Pero conference in Noosa landed.

As the photos show, we've had to make room for new glass before. Won't be the last time either.

But the recognition isn't really the point. Every one of these represents hundreds of families we helped get into homes and that's the bit we're actually proud of.

So its official....🏆 We took out number one in the South Island.

I'll be honest it's pretty cool for me and my team to see that in print. Sixth year running on the NZ Adviser Top Advisers list, and the top spot for the South Island.

But here's what it actually means, and it's the bit we all care about......

It means we got more Nelson and Tasman families keys to their new homes than anybody else.

More first home buyers who thought they would be told "maybe next year" got a yes.

That's the real prize. The trophy is nice....but for us its nothing new...

The phone call where someone finds out they've been approved however.. that never gets old.

So this one isn't really mine. It belongs to every client who trusted us with the biggest decision of their life, and to the team who treat every single enquiry like it's the only one that matters.

Life insurance is usually the cheapest cover you can buy.

It's also the one people put off the longest.

It's for the worst case. Someone passes away, or is given a terminal diagnosis. A lump sum gets paid out.

When we've just helped someone into a home with a $500,000 or $600,000 mortgage, that lump sum has a very specific job.

It means that if one partner dies, the mortgage doesn't become the surviving family's problem.
Nobody has to work out how to keep paying it. Nobody has to sell up while they're grieving.
That's the whole idea. 🎥

Theresa and her partner first came to see us two years ago. They weren't ready to buy yet and that was fine. What they needed was a realistic plan.

This is the part people don't always realise: the conversation doesn't have to start when you're ready. It's often far more useful to start when you're not because that's when there's still time to shape the deposit, tidy up the spending, and get everything lined up properly.

Should you switch insurance providers?

Before you move your insurance to save a few dollars a month, watch this.

Any health conditions you have had since your original policy could be excluded by a new provider, and you might not even remember everything you need to disclose.
