Okay, full disclosure... I haven’t actually learned how to pull a floor lamp out of a carpet bag and yes, this video is total AI, but it’s a good excuse to jump on here with a quick update!

I’m heading up to Auckland from October 1st to October 5th, and I’d love to catch up in person - my shout for a coffee or a drink!

If you’ve been following along for a while (or if you’ve just stumbled across my page!) and you’ve been meaning to get your personal insurance sorted, this is your sign.

No corporate jargon, no high-pressure sales pitches - just a relaxed, plain-English chat to look at your setup and see if we can get your cover working smarter for your budget.

Whether you want to review your current policy or look at:

⭐ Health Insurance (using smart excess options to cut down weekly bills)

⭐ Income Protection (so the mortgage stays paid if you’re off work)

⭐ Life & Trauma Cover (to keep the family protected)

The video might be artificial, but I am 100% real, and I’d love to connect while I’m in town. 🤍

👉 Living in Auckland and want to grab a drink & advice between Oct 1–5? Drop a “me!” in the comments, or slide into my DMs to lock in a spot!

Hope is a great mindset for life, but it’s a terrible strategy for your finances.

Most people don’t actively decide to run the risk of losing their home, business, or lifestyle if a health crisis or injury strikes. They just default to “it won’t happen to me” - until it does.

A real contingency plan isn’t having a vague savings account that could get wiped out in two months of missed income. It’s having a structured safety net that answers three simple questions:

1️⃣ Income: How do the mortgage and groceries get paid if you can’t work for 6 or 12 months?

2️⃣ Health: Can you access private specialists in days, or are you stuck on a 12-month public waitlist?

3️⃣ Capital: Where does the money come from if you need $50,000+ for non-Pharmac drugs or major life adjustments?

If your answer to those questions is “I’ll figure it out when it happens,” you don’t have a plan - you have a gamble.

The good news? Putting a real backup plan in place is easier, faster, and far more affordable than you think.

Confession: Asking for Google reviews as a financial adviser feels a bit like asking your friends to rate your cooking after a dinner party... slightly awkward... but that’s me to a tee!

My goal in my role (it rhymes!) has always been to make insurance straightforward, stress-free, and actually helpful (with zero boring jargon).

If we’ve worked together over the last year, you’ve survived the paperwork, and you’ve had a great experience, I’d be beyond grateful if you could drop me a quick 5-star rating on Google.

It takes less than a minute - literally faster than deciding what to make for dinner tonight - but it makes a massive, game-changing difference for me, so I can help other families find advice they can trust.

Thank you so much to everyone who takes a quick moment - you’re absolute legends! 💛

Declined for life insurance in the past? Thought your medical history made you completely uninsurable? This update is specifically for you. 👇

Until now, if traditional insurers turned you down due to health conditions, past claims, or high risk, you were often left with zero options to protect your family.

We are thrilled to announce that Thrive is officially accredited with Momentum Life—bringing guaranteed non-underwritten life insurance to our clients across New Zealand! 🇳🇿✨

The Key Highlights:
✅ Up to $300,000 in Cover: Essential protection to cover mortgages, debts, or leave a financial cushion for your kids.

✅ No Medical Underwriting: No invasive doctor reports, blood tests, or lengthy medical questionnaires required.

✅ Guaranteed Acceptance: Designed specifically for those who struggle to get traditional corporate cover.

💰 Surprisingly Affordable: To give you an idea on price, I ran a quote on myself ($300k of cover for a 43-year-old non-smoking female), and it came out to just $30.02 per fortnight! ☕

Important to note:

Because non-underwritten products don’t check your medical history upfront, they operate differently than standard comprehensive policies (like specific wait periods on pre-existing conditions). As independent advisers, our job is to run through the details with you to make sure it’s the exact right fit for your personal needs.

Don’t leave your family’s financial future to chance simply because you thought you couldn’t get covered.

Using your KiwiSaver or retirement savings as a medical emergency fund sounds fine in theory - until you realize what it actually costs you in the long run.

In New Zealand, you can apply for an early KiwiSaver withdrawal under significant financial hardship or medical necessity. But withdrawing $30,000 or $50,000 in your 30s, 40s, or 50s doesn’t just reduce your current balance - it completely wipes out decades of compound growth.

That $40k medical withdrawal today could easily cost you $150,000+ in lost retirement wealth down the track.

This is exactly why private health and trauma insurance exist.

Insurance acts as a buffer around your wealth. It pays for specialized treatments, non-Pharmac cancer drugs, and fast-track private surgeries so your hard-earned retirement savings stay right where they belong: growing for your future.

Don’t let a temporary medical event jeopardize your long-term independence.

Let’s talk openly about a topic that stops a lot of people from applying for insurance: Mental Health Underwriting. 🧠💛

Whether it’s seeing a psychologist during a tough season, taking medication for anxiety, or taking time off work, many people worry that a history of mental health support will automatically ruin their chances of getting cover.

Here is what underwriters are actually looking for behind the scenes - and why a mental health history isn’t the roadblock you think it is:

1️⃣ How Underwriting Works:

Underwriters don’t expect you to have a “perfect” medical record. Seeking help is actually seen as a positive, responsible step. When they review an application, they simply look at:

Recency & Duration: Was it a situational period in the past, or is it an ongoing condition?

Severity & Impact: Did it cause time off work, hospitalization, or changes to daily life?

Treatment: Are you on low-dose maintenance medication or receiving active therapy?

Depending on these details, you might receive standard terms, a reviewable restriction, or a mental health exclusion.

2️⃣ My Personal Experience:

I’ve personally lived with anxiety for over 11 years, and I’m medicated for it. When I set up my own Health and Income Protection cover, the underwriter placed a mental health exclusion on my policies.

And if I’m being completely honest? It doesn’t bother me one bit.

Why? Because my policies still protect me against literally thousands of other unexpected life events - from cancer treatments and heart conditions to major surgeries, stroke, and physical injuries.

An exclusion on one specific condition doesn’t make your policy useless; it just means you’ve built a rock-solid safety net protecting your income and health against almost everything else life could throw at you.

Never hide your medical history - non-disclosure can invalidate a claim when you need it most. My job as your adviser is to present your story in full context to underwriters and help you build a setup that gives you complete peace of mind.

Have I told you lately… how much I love my job? 🥹✨

Getting messages like this from clients completely makes my week.

Insurance can feel like a complete minefield, but sitting down to simplify the process - and ending up with a result where a family saves ~$2,500 a year, gets their kids added to the policy, AND gets better overall coverage - is what it’s all about! 🥳

I get to deal with the absolute best people every single day. Helping Kiwis make smart, confident moves for their families without the headache (or the corporate jargon) is the biggest privilege.

To my amazing clients: thank you for trusting me with your families and your cover!

Got a pay raise, a promotion, or a new job with better pay? Congratulations!

Now comes the hard part: stopping lifestyle creep from swallowing every single extra dollar.

Lifestyle creep happens when your spending automatically rises to match your new income. You earn more, so you start buying slightly nicer coffee, dining out more often, or upgrading subscriptions. Before you know it, that hard-earned raise has completely vanished, and your savings balance hasn’t moved an inch.

Here’s the simple 50/50 rule to beat it:
Whenever your income goes up, take 50% of the pay increase and direct it immediately into your savings, KiwiSaver, or debt repayment - before it even hits your main checking account.

Then, use the remaining 50% to enjoy your life! ☕✨

This way, you still get to celebrate your hard work and enjoy a lifestyle upgrade, but you’re also systematically building long-term wealth without feeling deprived.
